STATS Tests Image Sensors with Agilent Technologies SOC Systems

1/6/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that ST Assembly Test Services Ltd. (STATS) (Nasdaq: STTS; SGX: ST Assembly), a leading independent semiconductor test and advanced packaging service provider, has purchased multiple Agilent 93000 CMOS Image Sensor systems for testing products in the emerging consumer image-sensor market, including camera phones, automotive applications and digital cameras.

According to Taiwan-based Market Intelligence Center (MIC), the camera-phone market will grow at a 53.8 percent compounded annual growth rate over the next five years.

"The Agilent 93000's single scalable platform ensures tester longevity and has the versatility to test cutting-edge technologies, such as image sensors for handset camera modules, with minimum risk," said Jean-Emmanuel Perdereau, Worldwide Test vice president of STATS. "This close collaboration in image-sensor test has positioned STATS to be a key supplier of test services in this high-growth market, and further strengthens its position as the leading independent mixed-signal testing company."

Agilent's image-sensor solution provides precise, high-quality test with industry-leading throughput by incorporating an illuminator, advanced frame grabbing, image processing and analysis routines into the Agilent 93000.

To obtain this high throughput, the system has four parallel, dedicated, high-speed PCs that quickly capture the image-sensor data, process the information, and transfer the results to the Agilent 93000's SmarTest production environment. This fully integrated test environment enables multi-site testing, both for on-wafer and packaged parts, which helps STATS and its customers significantly reduce total cost of test via higher throughput and higher yield.
