Setram to Acquire Agilent's Wizard Wireless Network Planning and Design Tool

9/26/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Setram International announced an agreement for Setram to acquire Agilent's Wizard Wireless Network Planning and Design Tool products within Agilent's test and measurement business. Setram develops and markets a suite of software solutions focused on the design and optimization of advanced cellular networks. Under terms of the agreement, Setram also will acquire technical support and training associated with the products. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Agilent's Wizard Wireless Network Planning and Design Tool is a high-precision 2G, 2.5G and 3G network planning and design tool that helps wireless service providers plan for network growth and manage next-generation technology migrations. Wizard's innovative capability of modeling network conditions at the deployment phase helps reduce the typical design cycle time up to 20 percent.

The divestiture is part of Agilent's overall effort to refine its strategic focus. The company will continue to provide a wide range of other leading wireless instrument products and services, including base station test sets, attended drive test systems and unattended drive test solutions as well as GSM/GPRS/UMTS/cdma2000 analysis tools. Agilent remains committed to providing leading-edge wireless OSS monitoring and management solutions.

Twenty-eight Agilent employees in Melbourne, Fla., are affected by this transaction. Setram is offering jobs to the majority of these employees.

"Setram is an excellent choice for our customers, our employees and Agilent," said Lynne Camp, vice president and general manager of wireless business, Agilent's Communications Solutions Group. "Our Wizard products are highly complementary with Setram's existing suite of solutions, offering our customers a roadmap of new products and enhancements. We are working closely with Setram to ensure a smooth transition for our customers."

"We are very excited about the acquisition of Agilent's Wizard Wireless Network Planning and Design tool products," said Khalid Hamied, founder and CTO of Setram International. "The Wizard team and their products will both expand and complement our existing wireless simulation and optimization solutions.
