Softek Automated Storage Earns Best SANs Integration Solution Award

9/25/2003 - SoftekTM, a leading provider of storage management software, announced the company's Softek Automated StorageTM solution suite earned top marks from InfoWorld magazine in a comparative test published in the Sept. 15 issue.

The Softek Automated Storage management suite, which includes Softek Storage Manager, Softek Storage Provisioner and Softek SANView, was selected as the best solution for managing heterogeneous storage environments over competitive offerings from EMC, Hewlett-Packard and IBM in an article titled “Stepping Up SAN Synchronization.”

The article's summary for Softek read: “Bottom Line: The best solution we've found for integrating SANs combines a flexible storage virtualizer with an easy-to-use centralized console. Unlike the other offerings, it supported a wide range of storage networks and arrays.”

The article also added: “Based on the tests, we believe that Fujitsu Softek has the most robust storage networking interoperability solution and a more intuitive user interface.”

The article also gave Softek a strong recommendation. “ For a green-field installation where there's no pre-existing favorite storage management solution, or where there's a genuine need for the integration of multiple SANs, the Fujitsu Softek solution was at the head of the class — and even in an EMC, HP, or IBM environment, it would be worth close scrutiny.”

The InfoWorld article reported the results of laboratory testing held at the University of Hawaii in July. Each competitor was required to merge storage area network (SAN) hardware configurations from EMC, HP and IBM into a single SAN environment. Judging was based on a wide range of functionality and the ability to integrate storage resources between three SANs. According to the reviewers, Softek emerged from the pack by offering “the highest level of integration.”

The article's author, Alan Zeichick, also was impressed with the flexibility of Softek Storage Provisioner and that “the solution's extreme configurability is noteworthy.”

“From the start, we have been committed to the creation of an automated and open software platform that simplifies and optimizes the management of complex, multi-vendor storage infrastructures,” said Steven Murphy, president and chief executive officer at Softek. “This win is another key result of the relentless focus of the entire Softek team in delivering on the promise of radically improving the current status quo hardware vendor lock-in approach to managing storage data life cycles and infrastructures.”

This year, Softek has been honored with a number awards and positive reviews including:

  • January: Softek Named to 2002 DM Review 100
