9/25/2003 - Parasoft, a leading provider of Automated Error Prevention software solutions announced that Parasoft AEP SolutionsTM offer a practical way for businesses that outsource development projects to monitor offshore development and ensure code quality and reliability.
According to research firm Sand Hill Group, more than 80% of software companies are (or will be by this time next year) sending code-writing duties or implementation work offshore.(1)
"Outsourcing seems to be a ‘quick fix’ for many companies seeking to cut development expenses. But there are many new problems and hidden costs that arise when trying to manage disparate groups with different skill levels, habits and expectations," said Adam Kolawa, Parasoft Chairman/CEO. "Our Solutions provide a practical way for companies to monitor and regulate outsourced projects so that software applications based on outsourced code don’t diminish in quality or reliability. We can also help onshore companies keep tabs on the status of projects they choose to send overseas."
Parasoft AEP Solutions promote the idea of finding each error only once and preventing entire classes of similar errors from occurring. Based on the concept of Automated Error Prevention (AEP) and Parasoft AEP MethodologyTM, the Solutions automate practices such as coding standards, static analysis, unit testing, regression testing, load & stress testing, functional testing, integration testing, application testing and monitoring throughout the software lifecycle.
By implementing the Solutions within a development organization, project managers can apply AEP practices to maintain consistent code quality, and can closely monitor their projects regardless of where developers are geographically located. The Solutions include a Group Reporting System (GRS), which gathers, stores, correlates, and reports the data from Parasoft and third-party tools, providing architects and project managers the information needed to make critical decisions about their software projects.
GRS also correlates information from previous projects to provide Confidence Factors that help to estimate the success of a current project. Confidence Factors use a scale from 0% to 100% to help determine the relative quality and stability of a project; to analyze how thoroughly the project has been tested; and to indicate what types of tests may still need to be conducted. The higher the confidence factor value, the better the application is working and the more likely it is to succeed after deployment.
"GRS gives companies the ability to see what’s going on with their various development projects, and to ensure accountability throughout their team members and service providers," said Kolawa. "For example, in their agreements with outsourcing groups, project managers can require certain levels of quality, test coverage, or Confidence Factors, and use GRS to determine whether such requirements have been met."
