9/22/2003 - CICC is an ideal opportunity for members of the press to learn about IC development and original, first published technical work and innovative circuit techniques that tackle practical problems. This lively panel will address the opportunities and challenges surrounding 130 nm and 90 nm process technology. Each member of the panel will have the opportunity to express and support their position on this very important topic.
Erich Goetting, vice president and general manager of the Advanced Products Group at Xilinx, will discuss how Moore's Law is fundamentally alive and well. He will explain how, over the years, virtually every generational advance in process technology has brought with it new capabilities, new economics, and new development challenges -- challenges in IC manufacturing, IC design, IC test, and in applying the devices in the development of next-generation systems. A key strategy of winning product design teams is figuring out how to leverage the advantages and minimize the disadvantages of each new generation of technology. Goetting notes that Moore's Law, however, is getting significantly more capital and design intensive, with the end result being that fewer companies will be able to participate in leading-edge chip manufacturing and design.
