9/19/2003 - QNX Software Systems announced that it will integrate support for the Intel® IXDP2401, IXDP2801, and IXDP2851 advanced development platforms into the QNX® Neutrino® realtime operating system (RTOS). With these new development platforms being announced today at the Intel Developer Forum in San Jose, CA, Intel now offers manufacturers of IP, optical, and wireless networking equipment a standard, integrated development environment for its line of IXP2XXX network processors. QNX Software Systems currently supports the existing Intel® IXDP2400 and IXDP2800 development platforms.
"Our customers are looking for flexibility to incorporate real time operating system support for our new development platforms for the IXP2XXX product line, such as the QNX Neutrino RTOS," said Doug Davis, general manager, Intel Network Processor Division. "By optimizing the QNX Neutrino RTOS for Intel's newest development platforms, QNX will help our customers get their networking products to market faster and at lower development cost."
"This announcement confirms QNX's longstanding commitment to reducing development effort for telecommunication equipment manufacturers," said Sebastien Marineau, senior netcoms architect, QNX Software Systems. "By providing off-the-shelf support for Intel's new IXDP development platforms, QNX will help make it easier than ever for manufacturers to take advantage of the processing speed of Intel network processors."
The Intel IXDP2401, IXDP2801, and IXDP2851 development platforms come with hardware reference designs that substantially shorten time-to-market for developers. They also feature a rich tool set and a broad choice of I/O cards.
The Intel IXP2XXX network processors accelerate packet or cell processing through software pipeline technology that enables the processing load to be distributed among multiple processing engines. Capable of processing data at speeds up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps), the processors are used in networking equipment to rapidly manage and direct data moving across the Internet and corporate networks. Unlike application-specific alternatives, network processors are fully programmable to extend the life of networking elements.
