Cypress Rolls Out Network Search Engines for Intel Network Processors

9/19/2003 - Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE:CY) announced that it will support the new development platforms for Intel network processors based on the PICMG 3.x ATCA standard. Intel’s latest development environment includes new development platforms and enhanced software applications and services for the Intel® IXP2800, IXP2850 and IXP2400 network processors. By designing its AyamaTM 20000 network search engine (NSE) to gluelessly connect to the Intel IXDP2801, IXDP2851 and IXDP2401 development platforms, Cypress has ensured interoperability not only with Intel network processors but also with the LA-1 standard from the Network Processor Forum.

Cypress will provide a complete software development kit (SDK) and hardware platform, which functions seamlessly with the Intel® IXP2400, IXP2800 and IXP2850 network processors and supports the Intel® IXA Software Development Kit Release 3.1. The SDK will include a foreign-object model (FOM) for cycle-accurate simulation, NSE drivers, and application-program interfaces (APIs) for the Ayama 20000 NSE. In addition, Cypress’s SDK will include a complete suite of control-plane APIs and data-plane macros that include initialization and diagnostic code. The hardware platform will consist of the development board and software that seamlessly operates with Intel’s new platforms.

“Intel chose a standards-based environment for our new development platforms to allow for maximum flexibility to incorporate third party software, hardware and boards,” said Doug Davis, general manager, Intel Network Processor Division. “By supporting our new development platforms, Cypress has demonstrated its commitment to standards-based hardware and software components.”

“Cypress’s collaboration with Intel teams the highest performance network search engines on the market with high-performance network processors and development software,” said Christopher Norris, vice president of Cypress’s Data Communications Division. “In addition, Cypress also offers the CynapseTM Software Platform (SP), a unified software environment for application simulation and development for all Cypress network search engine families to ensure a complete packet processing solutions for our customers.”

Cypress’s Network Search Engines
The Ayama 10000 family of NSEs is the highest performance network search engine in the industry at 266 million searches per second (MSPS). It will maintain Cypress’s lead in the commercial TCAM market by extending the speed and density of the NSE70000 family with differentiated features such as Mini-KeyTM power management and Soft PriorityTM table management. MiniKeyTM power management reduces power by engaging only the portion of the NSE array that contains entries of interest, thereby reducing power consumption by as much as 70%. Soft PriorityTM table management enables dynamic prioritization of entries for longest prefix match (LPM) in Layer 3 forwarding applications, reducing the cycles associated with routing table updates.

The Ayama 20000 NSEs will incorporate all the features of Ayama 10000 along with an LA-1 interface, a standard adopted by the NPF. The Ayama 20000 NSE devices will provide a glue-less connection to Intel’s IXP2400/2800 network processors.
