9/18/2003 - Korg Italy, the Italian subsidiary research and development center of Tokyo-based Korg Inc., an electronic musical instrument pioneer, has chosen audio converter technology from Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) the worldwide sales leader in audio components (source: Forward Concepts, April 2003) to power its next-generation professional electronic keyboards.
Since its founding 40 years ago, Korg has built a worldwide reputation among musicians and music aficionados for revolutionary music production and performance equipment. Now in production and scheduled for retail availability in October 2003, Korg's Pa1X-series electronic keyboards will offer superior audio performance for a new generation of musicians. The Pa1X incorporates three Cirrus Logic components that deliver a comprehensive, integrated solution and the stunning sound quality demanded by professional markets.
The Pa1X keyboards are powered by the Cirrus CS5361 analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, which provides negligible distortion and low noise. Designed to enable world-class audio recordings, the CS5361 offers excellent analog performance (114 dB dynamic range and -105dB THD+N) and sound quality. With 24-bit resolution and support for sample rates up to 192 kHz, the CS5361 is compatible with next-generation audio formats and is an ideal solution for professional and consumer applications that require premier performance at a competitive price.
In addition, Korg has chosen Cirrus' CS4396 high-performance digital-to-analog (D/A) converter and Cirrus' CS8405A digital audio transmitter device. The CS4396 leverages Cirrus' analog design expertise in an integrated, single-chip DAC that delivers 120 dB dynamic range, enabling professional-level audio quality. The CS8405A encodes and transmits audio data according to the AES3, IEC60958, S/PDIF, or EIAJ CP1201 standards. The CS8405A accepts audio and digital data, which it then multiplexes, encodes and drives onto a cable.
In our 40-year history, Korg customers have come to expect the highest levels of quality and performance from our products," said Franco Ripa, Hardware Development manager at Korg Italy. "Cirrus' leadership in the audio market made them an obvious selection for our new line of keyboards. Their leading-edge audio solutions enable us to deliver the superior audio performance our market demands."
According to an April 2003 report by Forward Concepts, Cirrus has established itself as the leader in the audio components market. "Customers like Korg demand products with the highest quality sound possible," said Jason Rhode, director of Cirrus' Mixed-Signal Marketing group. "Our audio solutions are proving the right choice for unrivaled sound quality that remains cost competitive."
