Sun Microsystems Enhances Java Enterprise System with Key Leaders

9/18/2003 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) announced that it is teaming with key Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), including SeeBeyond, Sybase, TIBCO, Vitria and webMethods to provide advanced systems integration support with the Java[tm] Enterprise System. Sun's newly integrated, open standards-based software system, which delivers a core set of industry-leading enterprise network services, enables ISV partners to easily integrate with the Java Enterprise System. These integration solutions allow customers to rapidly connect their software to a wide variety of IT information systems such as SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft to create next-generation software applications and Web services.

"The big plus for developers and IT project leads using TIBCO is being able to rapidly and reliably tie together applications, people and services to create new offerings," said Tommy Joseph, chief technical officer, TIBCO Software Inc. "We are working with Sun to ensure that developers can take advantage of the power of real-time integration as they design and deploy new services across the Java Enterprise System."

As the industry shifts from proprietary integration technology to open solutions, Sun and its integration partners are extending the interoperability of customers' IT environments through collaboration in industry expert groups. Sun is providing leadership in this area by proposing an extension of the J2EE[tm] platform to include integration. All integration partners announcing support for the Java Enterprise System are members of the Java Business Integration Standard Expert Group (JSR 208) and are working with Sun on the definition of open, interoperable, next-generation integration solutions.

"Sybase's relationship with Sun has successfully provided high-performance, low total cost of ownership data warehouse solutions. We are looking forward to similar results between the Java Enterprise System and Sybase's integration solutions, offering faster time to market and better ROI solutions for our customers," said Marty Beard, senior vice president, Corporate Development and Marketing at Sybase, Inc.

"SeeBeyond provides a comprehensive, standards-based platform for deploying business integration solutions, enabling organizations to rapidly build enterprise-scale composite applications that fully leverage the power of Web services," said Reed Henry, senior vice president of Services, Support and Alliances for SeeBeyond. "As the first integration vendor to become J2EE certified, SeeBeyond views the Java Enterprise System as an excellent environment for developing and deploying these industrial-strength integration applications."

"Integration challenges pose some of the biggest hurdles for the IT departments of our Fortune 500 Customers," said David Crouch, director and solutions architect, Vitria. "There is a real advantage in being able to drive services that are ahead of demand, and Vitria is focused on providing these solutions. Our customers are currently seeing the benefits of a unified Vitria and Java Enterprise System. This tightly integrated, services-based architecture, leads to quicker deployments and deeper solutions with lower total cost of ownership."

"webMethods is committed to protecting the long-term integration investments of our customers by providing them with standards-based solutions to lower their total cost of ownership," said Scott Opitz, senior vice president, Marketing and Business Development, webMethods, Inc. "Sun's Java Enterprise System offers our customers a service-oriented platform for the development and deployment of business-critical applications that can help them further exploit the power of the webMethods platform."
