Magma Targets AMD Opteron, AMD64 Architecture with RTL-To-GDSII Support

9/18/2003 - Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced RTL-to-GDSII support for the AMD OpteronTM processor and AMD64 architecture. An AMD64 version of Magma's complete IC implementation system is currently in limited release with its key ASIC and COT partners, with a general release planned for early December 2003. Magma is the first EDA vendor to port its entire line of RTL-to-GDSII software to the AMD Opteron processor. Due to the single executable and unified data model, it was an easy task for Magma to port and tune the system to handle multimillion-gate nanometer implementations from RTL to GDSII. The combination of Magma's software and the AMD64 architecture will provide users with a dramatic increase in capacity, as much as three times that of a 32-bit Linux system.

"With its ability to support both 32-bit and 64-bit applications, the AMD Opteron processor made it easier for Magma to port its software to a 64-bit architecture," said Ben Williams, director of AMD's server / workstation business segment. "By offering outstanding performance now for 32-bit applications and the flexibility to support 64-bit when the customer is ready, the AMD Opteron processor can simplify the migration path to a more powerful architecture for software developers and their customers."
