9/18/2003 - Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced RTL-to-GDSII support for the AMD OpteronTM processor and AMD64 architecture. An AMD64 version of Magma's complete IC implementation system is currently in limited release with its key ASIC and COT partners, with a general release planned for early December 2003. Magma is the first EDA vendor to port its entire line of RTL-to-GDSII software to the AMD Opteron processor. Due to the single executable and unified data model, it was an easy task for Magma to port and tune the system to handle multimillion-gate nanometer implementations from RTL to GDSII. The combination of Magma's software and the AMD64 architecture will provide users with a dramatic increase in capacity, as much as three times that of a 32-bit Linux system.
"With its ability to support both 32-bit and 64-bit applications, the AMD Opteron processor made it easier for Magma to port its software to a 64-bit architecture," said Ben Williams, director of AMD's server / workstation business segment. "By offering outstanding performance now for 32-bit applications and the flexibility to support 64-bit when the customer is ready, the AMD Opteron processor can simplify the migration path to a more powerful architecture for software developers and their customers."
"We're excited to be the first to offer RTL-to-GDSII support for the Opteron processor," said Nitin Deo, vice president of product marketing at Magma. "Magma's IC design software is well-complemented by the AMD64 architecture. Designers can leverage Magma's high capacity and almost all the available system memory to implement multimillion-gate designs using a flat methodology - without sacrificing Magma's runtime benefits."
Magma will be featuring demos of its software running on the AMD Opteron processor at Fusion, Magma's users conference. The conference will be held September 18-19 at the Westin in Santa Clara. For more information, please visit the Fusion website at www.magma-da.com/fusion.
About Magma Design Automation
Magma software is used to design fast, multimillion-gate integrated circuits, providing "The Fastest Path from RTL to Silicon"TM, enabling chip designers to reduce the time required to produce complex ICs. Magma's products for prototyping, synthesis, and place & route provide a single executable for RTL-to-GDSII chip design. The company's Blast CreateTM, Blast Fusion®, Blast Fusion APXTM, Blast PlanTM and Blast Noise® products utilize Magma's patented FixedTiming® methodology and single data model architecture to reduce the timing-closure iterations often required between the logic and physical processes in conventional IC design flows. Magma also provides PALACETM and ArchEvaluatorTM advanced physical synthesis and architecture development tools for programmable logic devices (PLDs). The company's stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LAVA. Visit Magma Design Automation on the Web at www.magma-da.com.
