9/17/2003 - Metanology Corporation announced that it has been elected as a supporting member of Eclipse, a community committed to the implementation of an open-source universal platform for tools integration. CEO David Zygmont will represent Metanology on the Eclipse board of stewards. Additionally, Metanology announced new releases of the Model-driven Development Environment (MDE). Powered by Eclipse, MDE is an advanced, model-driven development tool consistent with the Object Management Group's Model Driven Architecture (MDA) initiative.
"Developing on the Eclipse platform provided an excellent foundation for enabling all the facets required for creating a next generation software development technology like MDE," said David Zygmont. "Our development team was able to produce an advanced programming tool with features that exceed those provided by non-Eclipse based competitors. Instead of spending our programming effort creating infrastructure, we were able to focus on the features of MDE that would create value for our users."
Application architects and developers interested in a risk-free evaluation can download a full-featured version of MDE from http://www.metanology.com. During the evaluation period, users are provided email and phone support from Metanology support staff.
"Metanology's support for Eclipse is a reflection of the company's broad interest in delivering productivity enhancing tools to enterprise systems development, and their deep commitment to the open-source software community," said Skip McGaughey, Chairperson of the Eclipse Board of Stewards. "We are pleased to have Metanology join the board and we welcome the contributions they are making as they extend the Eclipse Platform with their offerings."
Eclipse has established an open-source eco-system of tools providers and consumers by creating technology and an open universal platform for tools integration. The open-source Eclipse community creates royalty-free technology as a platform for tools integration. Eclipse based tools give developers freedom of choice in a multi-language, multi-platform, multi-vendor supported environment. Eclipse delivers a plug-in based framework that makes it easier to create, integrate and use software tools, saving time and money. By collaborating and sharing core integration technology, tool producers can concentrate on their areas of expertise and the creation of new development technology. The Eclipse Platform is written in the JavaTM language, and comes with extensive plug-in construction toolkits and examples. It has already been deployed on a range of development workstations including HP-UX®, Solaris®, AIX®, Linux®, MAC OS X®, QNX® and Windows® based systems. Full details of the Eclipse community and white papers documenting the design of the Eclipse Platform are available at http://www.eclipse.org.
Metanology Corporation offers model-driven development technology to the Java development community. Using simple UML diagrams to design application functionality, and JSP-like Java MetaPrograms to control architecture implementation, the company's Model-driven Development Environment reduces application development time and cost of J2EE applications by over 50%. MDE is consistent with OMG's MDA. Metanology Corporation has been at the forefront of model-driven development since 1998, and is a leading provider of model-driven development products and services. The company is headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Metanology and Model-driven Development Environment are trademarks of Metanology Corporation in the United States and other countries. MDA is a registered trademark of the Object Management Group.
