9/16/2003 - ARTiSAN Software Tools, a global leader for UML-based, real-time systems and software modeling tools, announced that AUDI AG, an international developer and manufacturer of high-end automobiles, has selected Real-time Studio as its tool of choice for test software design as well as for systems and software development for future projects.
"The level of sophistication of automotive electronics has risen dramatically within the last few years," noted Reinhard Schieber, Project Manager within the electronics test group at AUDI. "The integration of complex electronic systems is a tremendous challenge for AUDI and our suppliers, and requires us to perform extremely rigorous tests to ensure functionality, quality, and safety. Until we adopted Real-time Studio as our standard, AUDI engineers used a wide variety of tools for developing our test catalog, which proved problematic; we experienced communication issues since we lacked a formal standard. This also resulted in a lack of portability between other projects, so reuse was almost nonexistent. We were interested in a tool that could be employed during the entire product development process, and also perfectly meets the needs of our test software development. This yields better communication between all of the people involved in product development."
"We narrowed the selection to UML-based tools," continued Schieber, "as we feel its standardized formal notation in the form of diagrams is the best way for us to represent the functionality of our tests. After evaluating several products, we selected ARTiSAN's Real-time Studio. The multi-user repository fosters teamwork and supports the distribution of standard libraries containing our intellectual property, which can easily be reused on other test projects. The open interface of Real-time Studio allows the integration of specialized tools – in our case, a proprietary program that transforms the diagram information into executable test scripts. Real-time Studio enables us to design our test software in graphical notation and easily share the results with engineers throughout the company. It has proven to be an excellent choice for us."
Jeremy Goulding, President and CEO of ARTiSAN Software, commented, "Automobiles are comprised of an ever growing number of electronic systems and AUDI's goal is to guarantee vehicle safety by a reliable integration of these systems. The selection of Real-time Studio as the most appropriate UML tool for enabling AUDI to achieve this goal is a tremendous endorsement of our core development objectives, namely repository based multi-user support, usability and flexibility. ARTiSAN has based its product development on providing a rich set of features to make Real-time Studio the best COTS product for UML-based systems and software development, while acknowledging that each customer has unique requirements and that the best way of satisfying these requirements is to provide sufficient flexibility and openness in the tool for customers to extend it to fit their specific needs perfectly. In this way, Real-time Studio and its functionality grows with the clients' needs and continues to be a profitable investment long after its initial purchase."
