9/15/2003 - Ampro Computers, Inc., the inventor and leading supplier of PC/104 and EBX single board computers for non-backplane embedded systems, introduced the CoreModuleTM 410 PC/104 CPU module to extend the life of headless 486 systems through 2010. Embedded system OEMs with modest controller or processor requirements are no longer forced to move up the performance curve just to keep their systems in production. Also, Fortune 500 system manufacturers in the medical and military electronics industries now have a dependable source of low-cost 486 modules for the migration of their systems that use end-of-life 486 modules. The CoreModule 410 module features a 133MHz processor, memory, serial ports, and an IDE interface. This product complements Ampro's successful CoreModule 400 single board computer (SBC) which additionally supports video, Ethernet, and USB. "Ampro continues to provide a path forward for embedded system OEMs who need a basic system controller around 100MHz, but have been rattled by the string of end-of-life notices in the 486 space," said Paul Rosenfeld, Ampro’s CTO. "A year ago, we began to migrate OEMs who use video and Ethernet to our CoreModule 400 product, and now we offer the same commitment to ship through 2010 to users of 386 and 486 processors for headless or deeply embedded PC/104 applications. By using the STPC? Atlas and Elite processors from STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) for our CoreModule 400 and 410 products, Ampro is uniquely positioned to address the widespread need for a dependable 486 PC/104 supplier."
"STMicroelectronics applauds Ampro's commitment to the embedded systems marketplace," said Colin Long, Mass Market Marketing Director of STMicroelectronics' Microcontroller Division. "ST has achieved success in the industrial and transportation markets with the STPC family, where long-term supply commitments are typical, so Ampro can leverage the success of STPC in ST's primary markets to create a reliable source to the medical, military, and general embedded markets."
Pricing and Availability
The CoreModule 410 will be priced at under $350 in single quantities, and well under $300 each in moderate volumes. The CoreModule 410 is available today for evaluation and qualification with production volumes available in 60 days.
