SBE, Gcom to Develop Comprehensive Solaris-based WAN Solutions

9/12/2003 - SBE Inc. (NASDAQ: SBEI), a leading supplier of high performance OEM communications solutions, announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with Gcom, a recognized developer of SNA, X.25, Frame Relay, LAPD and other data communications software, to deliver comprehensive Solaris-based wide area networking (WAN) solutions to the marketplace.

"Bundling SBE’s rich selection of WAN interfaces with Gcom’s field-proven Solaris-based legacy protocols enables the two companies to address customer requirements for high-performance WAN solutions that plug into Solaris applications with minimal effort or integration time," commented Daniel Grey, senior vice president of sales and marketing for SBE. "We are pleased that the users of Solaris servers and blades can take advantage of this sophisticated blend of advanced board-level interfaces and Solaris drivers, with the option of adding highly reliable and flexible implementations of Gcom’s protocols."

As SBE’s exclusive global provider of Solaris WAN protocol drivers and stacks, Gcom is porting its Solaris protocols to SBE’s broad array of PCI and PMC WAN adapters. Currently, Gcom’s WAN protocols are successfully running on SBE’s wanADAPT-CxT1E1, a single, dual or quad port channelized T1/E1 PCI interface; and its wanPMC-C4T1E1, a quad port channelized T1/E1 PMC adapter. Other SBE WAN products supporting Solaris are available upon request.

"In Gcom’s commitment to providing customers with convenient and reliable integrated solutions, Gcom is always looking for dependable hardware vendors, such as SBE, to effectively complement our extensive software packages," stated Douglas K. Jones, COO of Gcom. 'With over 20 years of legacy protocol and driver development experience, Gcom has worked with many hardware vendors, and we are very pleased to have this opportunity to form this strategic alliance with SBE who is among the best we have found."

The wanADAPT-CxT1E1 and wanPMC-C4T1E1 with Solaris protocol drivers with SNA, X.25, Frame Relay, LAPD and other legacy protocol options are available now. Please contact Gcom at or 217-351-4241 for ordering details.

Solaris-based LAN, SCSI, and Fibre Channel adapters are also available from SBE. For all inquiries on these products and WAN solutions based on non-Solaris operating systems, such as Linux or BSD, please contact SBE directly at 800-214-4723.
