9/11/2003 - At the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston next week, Xilinx (NASDAQ: XLNX) will be on hand to demonstrate the latest Xilinx embedded system design environment solutions.
Xilinx Showcases Embedded Technology at Embedded in Action Event
Selected to present four end-user applications at the Embedded in Action event on September 16, Xilinx will showcase its embedded technology in the following consumer products:
The Xilinx® enabled applications will be on display in Xilinx booth #409, September 16 - 17, 2003. The Embedded in Action presentations will take place in booth #323 at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16.
Free Hands-on Xilinx Embedded Workshops
Learn how to build a PowerPCTM in a Virtex-II ProTM based embedded system. In this free workshop, participants will implement a simple system using the embedded IBM PowerPC core in the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA using the Xilinx Integrated Software Environment (ISE). Workshops will run throughout the day on Tuesday and Wednesday. For schedule information and to register online, visit www.xilinx.com/events/tradeshows/escb03/workshop.htm
Xilinx Conference Session 203
Hardware/Software Co-Design in Embedded FPGAs
Tuesday September 16, 8:30am - 10:00am
Attendees will gain first hand knowledge of embedded FPGA design techniques, and hardware / software partitioning trade-offs in FPGAs. They will also be exposed to different types of embedded FPGAs available in the marketplace, discuss when to use soft processors versus hard processors in FPGAs, learn the off loading process intensive functionality to hardware, and explore other techniques. For more information, visit www.xilinx.com/events/tradeshows/escb03/conf_session.htm
In-Booth Theater Presentations
Xilinx will be hosting the following in-booth theater presentations. Stop by booth #409 for a schedule.
SoC Foundry on Your Desktop - From Concept to Booted Hardware / Software In a Matter of Minutes
Go from a "blank slate" to a booted programmable system in less than six minutes. In this presentation, attendees will be taken through automatic generation of processor system hardware and software, including the creation of a Board Support Package (BSP) and booting a Real Time Operating System (RTOS).
Advanced Programmable System Platforms - Virtex-II Pro
Originally used as "glue logic", programmable devices now facilitate system on a chip design and support integrated system elements. This presentation will demonstrate how programmable system platforms can facilitate the advantages of SoC design without the draw-backs of more expensive and cumbersome architectures.
Programmable System Development Tools - EDK Through ISE
Xilinx ISE is the industry's most complete programmable logic design environment and the Xilinx Embedded Development Kit (EDK) provides a complete system design environment to build embedded applications using Xilinx FPGAs. The above combination of tools will introduce designers to a new era of systems design using programmable devices.
Low Cost Programmable System Platforms - Spartan-3TM
Built on four generations of proven Spartan success in high volume applications, Spartan-3 FPGAs provide up to five million system gates with the lowest cost per gate in the industry. Spartan-3 FPGAs also provide a platform with the capability to tackle tough connectivity, DSP and embedded processing designs.
Embedded Designs - Doing More With Less
Economic realities are forcing companies to focus engineering resources on a few core competencies. As more new processors and tools continue to emerge in the marketplace, project success will increasingly depend upon choosing the right partners. This presentation will demonstrate how Xilinx technologies and services can reduce the risk and cost of embedded system development while maximizing performance.
Xilinx In-booth Demonstrations
Xilinx will exhibit and discuss demonstrations in the following technology areas. Visit booth #409 for a demo.
Programmable System Platforms
Xilinx will demonstrate a variety of programmable system platforms to demonstrate Virtex-II Pro and Spartan Series programmable system solutions. Examples of both hard PowerPC and soft MicroBlazeTM processor applications will be shown.
Processor System Development and Debug
A wide variety of development technologies will be on display including support for embedded software tools, Integrated Development Environment (IDE) support, IP creation and more. Xilinx will be demonstrating other products such as EDK and Platform Studio.
System Tools for DSP
A demonstration of System Generator for DSPTM will provide a new platform for high-performance DSP design. It will include concurrent hardware-in-the-loop co-simulation with Spartan-3 and Virtex-II FPGA platforms, with embedded microcontrollers.
MicroBlaze World Map
The MicroBlaze World Map demonstration will show the power of the MicroBlaze core used in graphic applications. It displays a world map using bitmapped graphics with frame rates from 640 x 480 to 1024 x 768 (easy to expand) at frequencies from 60Hz to 80Hz. The reference designs use MicroBlaze running on a Virtex-II Multimedia Board.
Enter To Win
Attendees can enter a daily drawing for a free Xilinx Embedded Developers Kit, the recently announced ISE 6.1i, or a CoolRunner-II Design Kit. To enter, stop by the Xilinx exhibit booth or attend the Xilinx workshop.
