9/11/2003 - Sequence Design opened its fifth "Center of Excellence", providing R&D and marketing resources for Sequence worldwide, as well as post-sales support for customers in India and nearby regions. Sequence, based in Santa Clara, Calif., supplies electronic design automation (EDA) software to chip designers worldwide and plans to invest as much as $2 million over the next 12 months in its India operations.
"There is a tremendous surge in high-end electronic design in India today," according to Sequence president & CEO, Vic Kulkarni, an IIT Bombay graduate. "The wealth of talent and ideas here deserves the highest level of support we can provide, and the company can utilize the local engineering community's tremendous intellectual resources to significantly extend our R&D efforts."
Sequence specializes in EDA software for nanometer integrated circuit (IC) design that helps companies create low-power chips generating less heat, and consuming less power than current generations of silicon. Sequence India will initially employ 30 engineers, with plans to double that number by 2005. It will be located at Sequence Design India Pvt Ltd, A-75, Sector 57, Noida, U.P, 201301, Ph: +91-120-2490468. Sequence's current customers in India include Motorola, Texas Instruments, ST, and Cisco. Sequence India becomes the company's fifth Center Of Excellence, joining other facilities in Acton, Massachusetts; Austin, Texas; Santa Clara, Calif.; and Tokyo.
"These centers place high value on personalized, ongoing customer service and contact," said Dr. Susheel Chandra, senior vice-president of R&D and product marketing at Sequence, and managing director of Sequence India. "Additionally, they can tap into local talent to fire up our global R&D staff. India is particularly interesting because it creates a 24/7 R&D environment; a team here can take over a problem from colleagues in California, work on it during their normal working hours, and have their results back by the time folks in Santa Clara are starting work."
Sequence India general manager, Krishna Kumar, held senior positions with Mentor Graphics, IBM, CrossCheck, and DRDO prior to joining the company. He has been in the industry for more than 15 years, developing high-end EDA tools in the areas of formal verification and board design, among others. He became general manager of Sequence India in August 2003.
"We are excited about the opportunity that Sequence India provides for creating and supporting tools for nanometer design," Kumar said. "We will cater to a variety of high-end customers on the forefront of design technology, and the R&D center places Sequence far ahead of others with its very high-quality manpower and global resources. We are committed to providing our customers with the latest technology, services, and support."
