8/13/2003 - Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), one of the world's leading suppliers of hard drives and computer peripherals, unveiled a slim and light USB-powered Magneto-Optical (MO) drive bundled with DICOM image viewing software – the DynaMO® Pocket with DICOM Viewer. Fujitsu is demonstrating how ultrasound and healthcare professionals can now easily transport DICOM images and data on 3.5-inch MO disks (MODs) from medical imaging equipment to notebook PCs and workstations for convenient offline review at the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA) conference in Anaheim, Calif.
Until now, viewing ultrasound images stored on MODs required returning to the ultrasound machine, access to expensive Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) review stations, or purchasing expensive image viewing software. The DynaMO Pocket marks the first turnkey solution for offline image review from a desk or away from the office. Hospital administrators and medical imaging professionals can now purchase DynaMO Pocket with DICOM Viewer for one low price and enjoy a truly mobile removable storage solution that transports, reads and archives DICOM images.
Just 14 oz light and 23mm thin, the DynaMO Pocket drive is designed for the healthcare practitioner on the go. There's no hunting for an AC outlet because power is supplied directly through the fast USB 1.1 interface. Ideal for file transport, system backup and long-term archiving, the DynaMO Pocket utilizes the same robust 3.5-inch MODs that doctors and hospital administrators have been using for more than 10 years to store and transport important ultrasound images.
ShowCase® Viewer software from Trillium Technology is included to provide the ability to view DICOM images stored on a 3.5-inch MOD on a notebook PC or workstation for offline viewing. Additionally, users are given the option to upgrade to Power ShowCase at a substantial discount. Power ShowCase provides a suite of image editing tools including HIPAA supported image de-identification tools that enables easy conversion of DICOM images to popular JPEG, BPM, TIFF and AVI file formats, as well as the ability to play video clips directly in PowerPoint® using Microsoft's ActiveX® technology.
"DynaMO Pocket with DICOM Viewer is the first turnkey MO solution for the ultrasound market," said Dan Dalton, director, optical products at Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "The DynaMO Pocket is exemplary of Fujitsu's dedication to providing complete solutions to the medical imaging and ultrasound communities."
The DynaMO Pocket drive is fully read/write compatible with earlier 540MB, 230MB, and 128MB 3.5-inch MODs. Fujitsu MODs protect critical data from shock, vibration, moisture, dust and magnetic fields, and provide greater than 50-year archival life* at less than a penny per megabyte.
The DynaMO Pocket with DICOM Viewer is priced at $279, and available immediately through http://www.MOstorage.com and Ingram Micro.
