Sybase, Fujitsu Software Form Partnership with Joint Initiatives

8/7/2003 - Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading enterprise infrastructure and integration company, and Fujitsu Software Corporation (Fujitsu), a leading provider of customer-focused IT and communications solutions for the global marketplace, announced they signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form a new partnership. Fujitsu will market Sybase’s Content Capture technology and offer it as a component of Fujitsu Interstage Portalworks, and Sybase will integrate Fujitsu’s Interstage XWand Developer XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) solution with PowerDesigner, Sybase’s all-in-one modeling and design tool and co-market the combined solution.

“Sybase and Fujitsu each have rich and complementary technology portfolios,” said Robert Sepanloo, vice president, Sales and Marketing, Fujitsu Software Corporation. “Our partnership with Sybase provides a foundation to exploit technology and distribution synergies for the benefit of both our end-user communities.”

By marketing Sybase’s Content Capture technology as an add-on module to its Interstage Portalworks solution, Fujitsu will provide end-users with the ability to create unique targeted views of real-time information from multiple sources. Interstage Portalworks is a portal solution for enterprise-wide collaboration that enables rapid and efficient development of portals that provide users with a single, consistent and personalized interface accessible through a Web browser or from any mobile device.

“We are collaborating with Fujitsu on a number of initiatives that we believe will deliver significant customer value,” said Billy Ho, senior vice president and general manager, Infrastructure Platform Group, at Sybase. “For example, the support of Fujitsu’s XWand technology with PowerDesigner greatly simplifies development projects involving XBRL, enabling customers to develop solutions that meet business objectives with greater efficiency.”

Sybase will integrate Fujitsu’s XWand with PowerDesigner, an enterprise modeling and design tool that provides an easy, effective way to model and develop for modern business systems. XBRL provides a common platform for critical business reporting processes that improves the reliability and ease of communication needed when exchanging financial data among internal and external users. By combining PowerDesigner’s easy to use visual modeling environment and Fujitsu’s XWand XBRL development environment, Sybase and Fujitsu will enable developers to exploit the power of XBRL throughout the extended enterprise.
