8/5/2003 - Extended Systems (NASDAQ: XTND), a leading provider of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, unveiled its OneBridge Mobile Groupware solution, a new product that will end industry speculation about whether wireless email vendors can deliver a reliable and secure push solution that works with multiple device types over multiple networks.
Debuting an original push methodology and a new name, Extended Systems' OneBridge Mobile Groupware offers an always-on, always-connected model using Extended Systems' IP-based Live Connect technology. Live Connect is a unique technology based on open push architecture that supports multiple device platforms, including Pocket PC and Palm, and multiple wireless networks including 2.5G (GPRS, 1XRTT), WLAN and Bluetooth. Additionally, via a unique user interface, users are always informed of data receipt and delivery, regardless of whether information is relayed while connected or disconnected-a significant improvement over push technologies that rely on SMS. The new software supports Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes.
"Leading mobile software suppliers continue to enhance solutions such as groupware that resonate with enterprises who are seeking viable mobile and wireless solutions today for their growing mobile workforce," said Stephen Drake, Mobile Infrastructure Software Program Manager at IDC, a leading provider of global IT research and advice. "Many large U.S. companies with complex back-end systems are typically more comfortable maintaining these software solutions within the firewall for levels of control, security, and management."
In addition to 2.5G, Bluetooth or cradle access, OneBridge Mobile Groupware allows wireless users to take advantage of the proliferation of WiFi "hot spots" by using the OneBridge Mobile Groupware real-time feature, from any browser-enabled device, at airports, in cafes and at campus Internet kiosks. Employees working from home PCs also have the benefit of real-time access to corporate data, offering another way for workers to remain connected while out of the office.
The development and release of OneBridge Mobile Groupware, formerly known as XTNDConnect Server, is Extended Systems' response to market demand and feedback from the company's customer base of nearly 3,000 enterprise customers and more than 300,000 users.
"Extended Systems' next generation mobile middleware resolves the issues that have slowed mass deployment of enterprise-wide wireless email," said Charles Jepson, Extended Systems' vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. "OneBridge Mobile Groupware not only ensures wireless data delivery and receipt across multiple network types for PIM and email, it provides an extensible architecture for the mobilization of strategic custom and legacy enterprise applications. These features, coupled with FIPS-compliant data security, give IT decision makers and line of business managers reason to advance mobile deployments in the enterprise, answering once and for all whether mobile is propaganda or payoff."
While OneBridge Mobile Groupware is the industry's answer to wireless and remote email, Extended Systems will continue to provide additional mobile solutions that allow companies to build and deploy custom applications or extend existing enterprise applications to mobile devices with the company's OneBridge Mobile Data Suite and OneBridge Mobile Business Solutions. The product name was changed from XTNDConnect Server to OneBridge Mobile Groupware to reflect Extended Systems' ability to extend enterprise applications-from custom applications to groupware to CRM and ERP-on one mobility platform.
