Concurrent Turns up Heat in Latest Intelligent Dual PMC Host I/O Board

8/1/2003 - Concurrent Technologies announces the PP 110/010-E, an extended temperature version of the very popular PP 110/01x, a single slot CompactPCI based intelligent dual PMC Host I/O board. As well as providing two 64-bit 66MHz PMC sites, the PP 110/010-E supports dual gigabit PICMG® 2.16 (Packet Switching Backplane), PICMG 2.9 (IPMI system monitoring), PICMG 2.1 (hot swap), and can operate as a system controller board, a peripheral board or a satellite board. The board uses the 800MHz Low Voltage Intel Pentium III Processor 512K with up to 1.5 Gbytes 133MHz ECC SDRAM. The PP 110/010-E supports a range of applications that require an operating environment of -25°C to +70°C, typically within the defense, transportation and industrial control markets.

With 2 PMC sites, the PP 110/010-E is ideally suited to I/O intensive embedded applications. The two 64-bit 66MHz PMC sites are available for user functions or for the addition of any standard PMC modules. The PMC I/O connector signals from both PMC sites are routed to the front panel and rear connectors (J4 is not required for rear I/O). For faster system throughput, the PP 110/010-E can auto-select to 33MHz or 66MHz CompactPCI backplane signaling speeds.

At the core of the design is the low power 800MHz Intel Pentium III “Tualatin” (0.13 micron) mobile processor in a FC-BGA package. The processor supports a 133MHz front side bus and 512 Kbytes of high-speed secondary cache. For increased reliability heat sinks are used in preference to fans for cooling the CPU. The PP 110/010-E provides, soldered on board, up to 1 Gbyte of 133MHz ECC SDRAM that can easily be upgraded to 1.5 Gbytes via the onboard memory socket, plus 32 Mbytes of Application Flash memory. This board also provides an external EIDE interface (up to Ultra-DMA100); with an installed EIDE option using an on-board CompactFlashTM extended temperature carrier within a single slot.

Other features available are dual 10baseT/100base-TX/1000baseT Ethernet interfaces, graphics interface, keyboard/mouse interface, floppy disk interface, 3 RS232 serial channels, 1 USB port, parallel printer port, PC real-time clock, watchdog timer and long duration timer. In addition LAN boot firmware is included. An optional transition module, AD PP5/001-E, is also available to facilitate applications requiring rear I/O connections.

For ease of integration, the PP 110/010-E supports many of today’s leading operating systems, including VxWorks®, Linux®, Windows® 2000, Windows NT®, Windows® XP Embedded and SolarisTM.
