8/28/2003 - Mentor Graphics Corp. announced the adoption of its Hi-Speed USB On-The-Go (OTG) Intellectual Property (IP) by Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN), the world leader in digital signal processing and analog technologies. Mentor Graphics® is the fastest growing provider of USB IP and, with its Hi-Speed OTG solution, is enabling the highest bandwidth connectivity in power- and performance-limited portable devices.
"We selected Mentor Graphics as our OTG provider since they have a history of delivering high quality IP solutions and are committed to industry standards and certification," according to Dave Pahl, general manager, Digital Camera Products, Texas Instruments. "As a result, this reduces our risk in delivering quality products to our customers, knowing that the IP cores have been pre-tested and directly validated against the standard."
The OTG supplement to the USB 2.0 specification provides portable devices, such as mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras and MP3 audio players with a cost-effective way of communicating without the need of a host PC. OTG-enabled devices can connect directly to each other in order to share data as well as to support the connection of traditional peripheral devices, such as keyboards, printers and even speakers.
A Proven Record of Certification
Mentor Graphics is a leader in USB IP, ensuring that the IP is compliant by creating reference designs that are validated against the standard just like any other USB product. Failure to provide pre-certified IP solutions, or relying on other customer designs to prove certification, could require weeks or months of extra effort in order to meet the proper level of compliance to the industry standard. Mentor Graphics, however, provides pre-tested, certified IP cores that ensure its customers of a smooth certification process for their designs.
"Our cores are widely used by many leading companies and we have a proven track record of successful silicon implementations. Our customers leverage our considerable engineering efforts in certification to reduce their risk of failure," said Michael Kaskowitz, general manager of the Intellectual Property Division of Mentor Graphics. "We will continue to lead the development of standards-compliant communication cores, with USB OTG as a critical focus."
