8/27/2003 - IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, announced that its ZebOS® Advanced Routing Suite (ARS) is compliant with the recently defined Network Processing Forum (NPF) software implementation agreements, including the IPv4 Unicast Forwarding Service API and Interface Management API. Implementing NPF agreements can speed development time and lower costs by providing a common set of APIs for networking hardware vendors deploying network processors, co-processors and protocol software.
"The NPF is pleased that IP Infusion has implemented the software agreements. Support of the agreements by independent software houses like IP Infusion will accelerate the adoption of network processor technology," stated Misha Nossik, Chairman of the Board of the Network Processing Forum.
IP Infusion has enhanced its Network Processor Application Program Interface (NPapi) to support the NPF IPv4 Unicast and Interface Management agreements. Networking vendors who choose to deploy ZebOS software and processors from vendors supporting NPF-defined software interfaces can now reduce the effort required to integrate control plane to data plane software.
"IP Infusion intends to continue implementing NPF software agreements as they are approved, added Gary Hemminger, Vice President of Marketing at IP Infusion. As the software infrastructure supporting the network processor industry continues to expand and diversify, it will be imperative that standard common interfaces are deployed.
The IPv4 Unicast Implementation Agreement, approved in April 2003, describes service API definitions for IPv4 Unicast forwarding. Functions defined include input/output parameters, return code specifications, and detailed usage notes for a range of API related to IPv4 Unicast route table management. The Interface Management Agreement, meanwhile, provides API specifications for creating, deleting and managing interfaces. Also in the agreements are specifications for respective completion callback and event handler routines.
