Marimba, Celestix to Roll Out Linux-Based Hardware Appliance

8/26/2003 - Marimba, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRBA), the Software Change Management Company, announced an alliance with Celestix, a leading provider of managed security platforms and multi-function Linux appliances, to offer a cost-effective solution for enterprise change management.

Celestix's appliances remove the complexities of server-based software, by combining processors, storage capacity, and networking functionality optimized for workgroups and remote divisions. Celestix's appliances provide companies with the necessary connectivity - such as file and peripheral sharing, shared Internet access, e-mail, schedule back-up, secure firewall, and Intranet capabilities - in a cost efficient manner.

Celestix appliances can use Marimba® software change management to distribute applications and content on-demand across its appliances, and to configure, manage and maintain appliances in joint customer settings. Using Marimba's management software enhances the capabilities of the Celestix appliance by efficiently distributing software and content to end points, providing flexible software access and enhanced quality of service to remote and local users.

Combining the benefits of appliance technologies with Linux reduces procurement costs, time to deployment, and ongoing management requirements, providing a cost-effective solution for enterprises. As an appliance, the solution is easily deployed in a remote office by a non-IT professional, keeping deployment costs low. Together, Marimba and Celestix help to optimize IT infrastructures.

"The combination of Celestix and Marimba provide a powerful, one-two punch for an enterprise," said Kia Behnia, Marimba's chief technology officer, "In addition to lowering TCO, it provides enhanced quality of service through full functionality, dedicated, low touch servers."

"As companies continue to streamline IT activities, and dedicate hardware assets to specialized, or even individual functions, they see increasing value in our server appliances, because they provide full functionality at a fraction of the total cost of ownership of traditional servers," said Jim Hanley, CEO of Celestix. "Marimba helps us expand the flexibility of our appliances through automated, agile software distribution and management capabilities that help our customers incorporate our appliances into any existing IT environment."
