IDT Process ATM Traffic with Inverse Multiplexing Devices

8/26/2003 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, introduced the company’s new family of inverse multiplexing ATM (IMA) devices. These devices are primarily used in systems that process ATM traffic and require external connections over T1/E1 or xDSL links for compatibility with existing networks.

The new IMA device family offers unique functionality for remote equipment, such as mobile base stations and DSL multiplexers, by allowing the remote configuration of up to eight IMA groups at a far-end unit via the IMA group auto-detect function. This feature enables the user to configure and start up IMA logic groups at the near-end unit while forcing the far-end’s group to follow the same procedure, eliminating the need for local-side configuration and management at remote sites. In addition, the IMA family offers the most advanced user interface in the industry, simplifying software development, reducing costs and speeding time to market. The IDT IMA devices, coupled with the company’s SuperJETTM transceivers, allow IDT to provide a complete solution for IMA line-card applications, with the industry’s lowest power consumption, chip count and board space.

The new IMA family further demonstrates the company’s commitment to the telecom IC market and is the first extension of the company’s transport family of T1/E1 devices to include ATM multiplexing. The family’s advanced user interface includes an embedded controller that allows configuration and operation through an API abstraction layer, eliminating the need for complex direct register accesses. The IMA family also provides a link backup feature that automatically adds a backup link when a previously configured link fails. This feature serves to maintain quality of service (QoS) with the highest priority available link being automatically selected as the bandwidth recovery link. Finally, the new IMA devices include an advanced cell buffer management feature that reduces latency and increases maximum delay tolerances to support ATM QoS.

Pricing and Availability
The IDT IMA devices are sampling now with production quantities available in Q4CY03. Pricing for the 16-channel device starts at $63.00 in 10,000-unit quantities. The 8-channel device is priced at $36.00 in 10,000-unit quantities. Software development boards and corresponding software are also available.
