Fujitsu Siemens Rolls Out Two New Rack-mounted PRIMERGY Servers

8/21/2003 - Fujitsu Siemens Computers, the leading European vendor of secure Business Critical Computing and Mobility solutions, has launched two new innovative PRIMERGY server models to meet growing demand in the rack server segment. The high-end PRIMERGY RX800 server consists of 8 (16) processors in 4 (8) height units designed to meet the demanding requirements of a modern IT infrastructure. The PRIMERGY RX200 server features two processors in a single height unit and is targeted at ASP and ISPs who need a front-end application platform for the constantly growing business. Typical entry-level street prices for the models now available are 1,525 ex VAT for the RX200 and 17,705 ex VAT for the new PRIMERGY RX800 eight-way system.

PRIMERGY RX800 high-end rack server
The new PRIMERGY RX800 combines cutting-edge Intel processor technology (IntelR XEONTM MP processors) with a revolutionary chipset design (high-performance EXA XA32& chipset). The PRIMERGY RX800 is primarily a platform for database applications or for server consolidation in centralised data centre environments. This server introduces proven technology from the mainframe class into the Intel-based server market to include high-availability functions such as hot-plug fans, PCI X slots, disks or memory mirroring options - increasingly key requirements for today's enterprise customers. This means that PRIMERGY-based enterprise solutions are now available 24x7. This technology revolutionises scalability, flexibility and performance, allowing IT directors' greater planning ability and providing higher investment protection. The PRIMERGY RX800 comprises 4-way components, allowing 4-way, 8-way, 12-way and 16-way systems to be developed with ease to meet the user's performance requirements. For systems requiring more than eight processors, two PRIMERGY RX800 servers can be simply combined via a high-speed link. Further investment or upgrading is only necessary when the corresponding performance is required, ensuring that the new PRIMERGY RX800 is ideally placed to support customers' growing requirement for capacity on demand solutions.

Technical highlights:

PRIMERGY RX200 front-end rack server
The one unit high, 19-inch rack infrastructure makes the PRIMERGY RX200 ideally suited for constrained or high-cost space environments. The server's functionality and performance makes it ideal for use as a front-end and mid-tier application server in data centres or server farms. The 19-inch rack infrastructure provides a perfect fit as a web application server, an e-mail server, terminal server and generally smaller application server.

The PRIMERGY RX200 fulfills the most stringent demands in this server class in terms of performance and storage capacity: two Intel XeonTM processors, large main memory expansion and an internal hot-plug hard disk capacity of up to 438 Gbytes.

In addition, the hard disks increase the availability and service-friendliness of the system, because of their hot-plug functionality. Standard RAID functionality and state-of-the-art main memory protection mechanisms allow the PRIMERGY RX200 to offer optimum data security. For IT user ease, the installed server management controller used in conjunction with "ServerView" and "RemoteView" offers comprehensive server management functionality.
