Centurion Targets Wireless Data with Tri-Band Micro Antenna

8/18/2003 - Centurion Wireless Technologies, Inc., the leading designer and manufacturer of antennas and power products for wireless communications, announced the Tri-band D-PuckTM, a new internal antenna simultaneously supporting IEEE wireless standards 802.11 a, b and g. The D-Puck is a high performance, versatile tri-band micro antenna for portable devices like laptops and PDA's, as well as fixed devices like Wireless LAN (WLAN) access points and cable modem gateways.

The D-Puck supports the 802.11 a, b and g frequency bands at 2.4 - 2.5 GHz and 5.15 - 5.875 GHz. Roughly the size of a computer chip, the D-Puck can be easily integrated into laptops and handheld devices to access networks that use different frequencies within the 2 GHz and 5 GHz bands. The D-Puck can also be used as the internal companion to an external antenna to enable antenna diversity, where a device's signal switches between two antennas to obtain the best reception.

"Users today have come to count on fast and reliable wireless Internet access on their laptops and portable devices, leading OEM's to search for a single antenna solution that provides high performance coverage for multiple wireless data frequency bands," said Monty Rohde, Vice President of Engineering for Centurion. "With its tri-band capabilities and small form factor, the D-Puck is a versatile all-in-one wireless data solution for any new device, whether it's portable or fixed."

The D-Puck features mixed polarization, and is an internal Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) that requires a small ground plane to radiate efficiently at a gain of + 3 dBi in all operation bands. The antenna weighs 2 grams and has dimensions of 16 x 16 x 6 millimeters. The D-Puck comes in tape and reel packaging for high volume manufacturing.

The D-Puck is now available from Centurion direct and authorized distributors. Please visit www.centurion.com for more information.
