7/30/2003 - TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in Embedded Linux(R) and development tools for embedded systems, announced that it has finished its second quarter with record growth in customer acquisition and market adoption of TimeSys Linux RTOS, the industry's only single-kernel Linux real-time operating system for advanced embedded systems. TimeSys concluded its second quarter of 2003 with revenue and design win increases of approximately 130% over the first quarter, expanding upon the momentum the company has experienced since the middle of 2002. TimeSys also reported that for the first half of 2003 TimeSys Linux design wins increased by 260% over the second half of 2002, with revenue growth of 295% for the same period.
"Nearly tripling our six-month revenues during this tough economic period proves that our product and partnership strategies are making TimeSys Linux a leading choice for advanced embedded systems development," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman. "We've signed a record number of new customers developing exciting new applications in high-end telecommunications infrastructure, industrial automation and control applications, building and office automation products, and military and aerospace systems. We've expanded our sales and distribution channels with new VAR partners and embedded hardware vendors, including tier-1 silicon and chip vendors like IBM, which are turning to TimeSys for the real-time performance they can't get from any other embedded Linux distribution."
According to research by the Venture Development Corporation, the top two reasons cited by embedded developers who are considering the use of embedded Linux over proprietary operating systems are its royalty-free licensing and support for key microprocessors. The number one factor delaying the adoption of Linux by these developers is a lack of real-time capabilities. TimeSys answers these requirements by providing the industry's only true, single-kernel Linux real-time operating system, delivered in a royalty-free "ready to run" software development kit that is tested and validated to work with more than 65 of the industry's most popular embedded hardware platforms.
During the second quarter TimeSys Linux RTOS was selected as the operating system and development platform for new and next generation products across all segments of the embedded systems industry by companies such as Applied Signal Technology, Boeing, Honeywell, L-3 Communications, Mitsubishi Electronics, Motorola, Northrop Grumman, Panasonic Communications, Samsung Electronics, and Siemens. These and other TimeSys customers cite the range of performance capabilities of TimeSys Linux RTOS and the ready to run delivery of TimeSys Linux software development kits (SDKs) for their target hardware as the core differentiators of TimeSys products.
About TimeSys Linux RTOS
TimeSys Linux RTOS is a hardware-specific, royalty-free Linux real-time operating system and software development environment for embedded applications. At its base is TimeSys Linux GPL, the industry's lowest latency open source Linux kernel offering full kernel preemption, unlimited process priorities, enhanced schedulers, and high availability/carrier-grade features. TimeSys Linux RTOS is the only single-kernel Linux distribution to add unique priority inversion avoidance mechanisms and high resolution timers to meet the performance requirements of the most demanding real-time systems. Packaged with enhanced and certified device drivers that support all I/O peripherals to the edge of the board, cross-platform GNU tool chains, a root file system and full documentation, TimeSys Linux RTOS software development kits (SDKs) are delivered "ready to run" on more than 65 supported hardware platforms spanning 8 processor architectures and 35 processors. Additionally, TimeSys Linux Reservations technologies ensure system response and predictable performance under extreme loads and overload conditions by reserving CPU cycles and network packet resources for critical tasks. Engineers can improve their development experience through the use of Professional Edition SDKs, including TimeSys' Windows- and Linux-hosted integrated development environment and event tracing/debugging tools, TimeStorm(R) and TimeTrace(R). Packaged in a complete, royalty-free product, TimeSys Linux RTOS helps reduce total cost of ownership, development risk, and time-to-market of advanced embedded systems.
