7/29/2003 - Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ: CPWR) announced that Smyth Systems used Compuware UNIFACE to completely redesign Smyth Systems’ leading software product in a mere 14 months. This redesign allows Smyth Systems to quickly meet the changing needs of its customers and increases the company’s ability to adapt its software to future change.
Smyth Systems, a leading supplier of software to the golf, club, resort and retail specialty markets, had undergone a series of internal reorganizations while facing market constraints that necessitated revamping their product, Smyth Club Golf Resort (CGR). In this situation, it was vital that Smyth Systems be able to deploy their product quickly in an environment that would allow for rapid application development. Smyth CGR contains accounting, membership and point of sale modules, a tee time reservation system and an interface to several payroll products.
After looking at several competing products, Smyth Systems chose UNIFACE because of its rapid development capability, its technology independence and its operating and database system support. Using UNIFACE, Smyth Systems was able to quickly introduce its new CGR product, including seven new main modules and approximately 100 primary menu selections. UNIFACE’s platform-independence also provides Smyth Systems interfacing benefits with food and beverage vendors, a growing area for Smyth System’s target customers.
“With UNIFACE, we didn’t just get rapid application development, we got the ability to adapt to change easily because it’s platform independent,” said Lew Shields, Vice President of Technical Support, Smyth Systems. “With UNIFACE’s help, Smyth CGR has become more intuitive, allowing us to provide our customers with a consistent user interface.”
Future plans at Smyth Systems include the creation of a new product called Smyth Retail, which will meet the needs of the retail specialty market. UNIFACE will also be used to develop the new product.
“The fact that Smyth Systems has been able to deliver a new, technology-independent application to market in 14 months demonstrates the power that UNIFACE offers as a development tool,” said Adrian Gosbell, Compuware Product Manager. “The ability to rapidly build, implement change and integrate has been a key feature of UNIFACE, and will continue to be so with future releases.”
UNIFACE is Compuware’s environment for developing and deploying the largest and most complex applications. UNIFACE is designed to deliver business-critical applications for today’s technology realities while providing a clear growth path for tomorrow.
