7/28/2003 - Helping designers evaluate and develop next-generation fingerprint authentication technology, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) unveiled the industry´s first multi-platform fingerprint authentication development tool (FADT). This new solution helps designers build authentication systems with improved accuracy by leveraging the digital signal processor (DSP) architecture that is best suited for complex image processing (www.ti.com/fadtpr).
The FADT is a flexible tool that when combined with TI´s DSP starter kits (DSK) and evaluation modules (EVM) on both the TMS320C5000TM and TMS320C6000TM platforms, forms a complete fingerprint authentication development environment. The FADT is an ideal development tool for both entry-level and experienced designers, and its flexibility allows designers to choose from a range of integrated solutions. Developers also have access to TI’s robust suite of eXpressDSP Software and Development Tools that allows them to get their product to market quickly.
"The new FADT is unique in the industry because it allows for such flexibility when it comes to configuration of the development environment," said Ram Sathappan, biometrics solutions manager, TI. "We have given our customers a low-cost solution that can be used in conjunction with other DSP-based technology to quickly deliver high-performance biometric products."
The FADT works seamlessly with a range of TI and TI third party DSP development boards. Customers can choose from the following:
"Accuracy and speed are the most important attributes of biometric technology because they give end users what they want: more convenience and better security," said Lennart Carlson, CEO at Fingerprint Cards AB. "We are excited to be working with TI to make this a reality."
OEMs and biometrics product manufacturers can get further help by leveraging the expertise of TI´s third parties, such as Spectrum Digital, which has developed hardware that works seamlessly with TI DSPs. Customers can also license and use application software for production directly from third party Fingerprint Cards AB whose ´distinct area detection´ verification algorithm and FPC1010 capacitive fingerprint sensor are included for evaluation as part of the FADT package. Additional support software is also available for licensing directly from TI’s extensive third-party network. For additional information please visit http://www.ti.com/biometrics3p.
