7/28/2003 - Extended Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: XTND), a leading provider of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, announced that itís mobile data synchronization and management software will be offered as a component of EDSí Extended Connected Office (ECO) Ė a service that brings the benefits of the secure, desktop environment to any mobile data device and provides end-to-end management of mobile devices through a combination of remote management tools and on-site support.
ECO connects mobile and remote workers seamlessly through the corporate firewall to access personal information management systems, corporate data, collaboration services and enterprise applications. Having secure, around-the-clock access to this information increases employee productivity.
Extended Systemsí XTNDConnect Server provides secure, anytime access to corporate email and PIM (personal information management) via multiple network types (wired and wireless), and multiple device types including Pocket PC, Palm and any other browser-enabled handheld, phone or PC. By offering Extended Systemsí XTNDConnect mobile technology as part of the ECO service, EDS will be able to deliver a highly scalable, secure solution for enterprise access to email and PIM.
Noting that XTNDConnect Server easily integrates with existing enterprise architecture, Extended Systemsí Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Sales Chuck Jepson said, "By leveraging Extended Systemsí technology, EDS can speed delivery of a flexible, scalable mobile application delivery and management environment that enables companies to better support a mobile workforce; improve employee productivity and lower total cost of ownership for mobile networks."
Already engaged in joint product training and marketing activities, Extended Systems and EDS will work closely to market and sell the ECO service, complete with Extended Systemsí mobile groupware solution. EDS announced earlier this month that it has signed an agreement with the U.K. telecommunications company, Orange, to create the Wireless Centre of Excellence, to jointly deliver and implement ECO to their existing client base and new enterprise clients.
"EDS has established a range of supplier relationships to incorporate best-of-breed products into a comprehensive portfolio that can be tailored to meet enterprisesí specific hardware, software and security requirements," said Jason Uzzell, Global Delivery Executive, EDS Mobility Services. "We are pleased that Extended Systems is now part of the ECO solution."
