7/24/2003 - Green Hills Software, Inc., the leader in embedded development technology, announced immediate support for the Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Semiconductor Product Sector's MPC5200 processor containing a PowerPC core with its INTEGRITY real-time operating system (RTOS), MULTI IDE (integrated development environment) and C/C++/MISRA C optimizing compilers. In addition, the Green Hills Probe and Slingshot run control solutions are now available.
The availability of this end-to-end offering provides a total solution for developers of both mobile and fixed applications in Telematics, gateways, industrial control, electronic/medical instrumentation and many others with or without the need for automotive network connectivity.

INTEGRITY is a fast, deterministic, royalty-free RTOS designed for applications that require high performance, high reliability and a cost-effective business model. Building upon the hardware memory protection facilities of the MPC5200 processor's MMU, INTEGRITY provides a firewall between the kernel and user tasks that prevents errant or malicious code from corrupting user data, the kernel, interprocess communications, device drivers and other user tasks.
INTEGRITY also enhances reliability and determinism by running with interrupts continuously enabled, even during RTOS system calls, and can guarantee access to both CPU time and system memory for critical application tasks. Other RTOS solutions do not offer this protection or security, leaving systems vulnerable to failure from errant application code, viruses and hackers.
The 32-bit MPC5200 is a highly-integrated, cost-effective processor built on the PowerPC 603e core. The 400 MHz MPC5200 delivers 760 MIPS and consumes fewer than 850 milliwatts of power. With an on-chip floating point unit (FPU) and a wide variety of input/output, the MPC5200 is designed to greatly improve performance in processing-intensive applications such as gateways, industrial controllers, Internet access devices, Telematics, global positioning systems, instrumentation and data image processing devices.
Including the new BestComm intelligent DMA controller, Double Data Rate Memory support and a PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) interface in a 272-pin package, the processor was designed for high data throughput while being cost effective. It provides exceptional flexibility via support for numerous automotive and general networking functions including Ethernet, USB 1.1 Host, CAN 2.0, J1850 BDLC-D, ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment), I2S (Inter-IC Sound), I2C (Inter-IC), SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) and multiple UARTs.
INTEGRITY is part of a complete solution comprised of Green Hills Software's MULTI IDE and Green Hills Probe and Slingshot run control solutions. MISRA, the UK's Motor Industry Software Reliability Association (MISRA), established a set of 127 guidelines for the use of C in safety-critical systems (http://www.misra.org.uk/) because C is a syntax that is prone to programmer mistakes that are technically legal. Green Hills MISRA C allows the user to select rules for violation checking and diagnostic levels for required and advisory rules. Errors or warnings are issued when violations to the MISRA rules occur, making the individual programmer code to these clearly defined, easily configured programming rules. This not only increases code quality, but also minimizes errors in application code due to C syntax interpretation.
