Agilent Debuts First Built-in Connected Solutions Application

7/22/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) introduced the industry's first built-in connected solution application for amplifier characterization. Agilent Connection Manager simplifies the integration of Agilent hardware and Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) software. The new amplifier characterization capability provides engineers designing wireless communications products measurement-based accuracy, and it helps speed simulation times by replacing amplifier circuit schematics with measurement-based behavioral models.

Agilent connected solutions increase productivity and lower development costs by enabling companies to use existing investments in ADS electronic design automation (EDA) software and test instrumentation from Agilent to verify designs earlier in the design process.

"This tightly integrated application makes the communications product designer's job easier," said Chris Mueth, Agilent EEsof connected solutions program manager. "Connection Manager is an example of how Agilent is continuing to lead the way in EDA software and test instrumentation integration. The new amplifier characterization application greatly simplifies design verification -- typically the most difficult and time-consuming step in overall system design."

During a circuit or system simulation, the Agilent Connection Manager uses the Microsoft(r) .NET framework and plug-and-play drivers to communicate with, and control a variety of Agilent test and measurement instruments. For the amplifier application, ADS uses the Connection Manager to communicate with a network analyzer to create power-dependent amplifier models suitable for use under modulated signal conditions such as WLAN or WCDMA.

The Agilent Connection Manager works with ADS 2003A on supported PC or UNIX(r) platforms, and is available now as an add-on tool to ADS 2003A. More information on Agilent's connected solutions applications is available at

Agilent ADS 2003A
Agilent ADS 2003A is a design and simulation environment used in the creation of products such as cellular phones, wireless and broadband networks, and radar and satellite communications systems. ADS 2003A EDA software offers full-featured simulation and layout capabilities for complete front-to-back RF and microwave IC design in a single, integrated design flow.
