Extended Systems Equips Field Reps with Mobile Pet Solution

7/22/2003 - Extended Systems (NASDAQ: XTND), a leading provider of mobile information management solutions for the enterprise, is helping to improve operational efficiencies for field representatives that collect merchandising information at major pet product retail locations throughout the country.

In order to deliver timely retail merchandising information to its vendor clients, Chuck Latham Associates (CLA), a leading retail merchandising and marketing firm within the pet product industry, has equipped field representatives with a mobile solution powered by Extended Systems’ mobile data management and synchronization technology. The solution enables field representatives to collect inventory, product display and other merchandising information on mobile devices during site visits. Replacing a paper- and fax-based system, the application was designed to improve in-store presence, increase marketing reaction times and, ultimately, increase sales for CLA clients with product placement at Petco, Petsmart and Pet Valu, just to name a few.

CLA partnered with Unique Solutions and Extended Systems to develop and deploy a solution that would expedite call reporting and deliver accurate and reliable information in a real-time environment. Known as FieldTrac, the solution employs Pocket PC devices, scanners, digital photography and data synchronization and management technology from Extended Systems. The solution also includes a hosted Web Server, where information collected from mobile devices in the field is synchronized and available for CLA managers and the company’s clients to review.

The centralized environment afforded by Extended Systems’ mobile solution enables the company’s management and accounting functions to keep better track of associate productivity. It also enables CLA clients, such as Del Monte Pet Products, Virbac and Pet Safe, to view information collected at pet store retail locations from any Internet browser.
