ASE Group Expands ICs Testing Capacity with Agilent 93000 SOC Series

7/17/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that ASE Group, the world's largest professional semiconductor testing service provider, has purchased 25 Agilent 93000 SOC (system-on-a-chip) Series test systems. ASE Group now houses the world's largest installation of Agilent's single scalable platform, testing a broad range of ICs (integrated circuits) including those used in wireless, communication, digital consumer and computational devices.

In the third quarter of 2002, many leading international independent device manufacturers and design houses began outsourcing their packaging and testing production lines, driving testing and packaging houses towards maximum capacity(1). This trend drove higher demand for high speed and mixed signal IC test services.

The Agilent 93000 SOC Series provides a single-platform solution for ASE Group's diverse testing needs. The Agilent 93000 features an upgradeable architecture that allows ASE Group to keep pace with cutting-edge device test challenges. With more than 550 systems installed and numerous design wins worldwide, the Agilent 93000 has the ability to synchronize upstream and downstream testing technology requirements, and ensures above-average load rates, thereby increasing satisfaction among ASE Group's customers.

"ASE Group is keen to develop long-term strategic partnerships with world leading automatic test equipment providers," said Tien Wu, President of ASE US, Europe and Japan. "Partnering with Agilent has provided ASE Group with expert support to help us quickly adapt our test programs in response to changing market dynamics."

"The Agilent 93000 SOC Series single platform and upgradeable performance roadmap ensures a long product life cycle, helping ASE Group minimize our risk in technology support," said Raymond Lo, President of ASE Test Inc. in Taiwan. "The multi-function platform helps ASE Group lower cost of test and ensure on-time delivery for our customers."

"Agilent has transformed its relationship with ASE Group to provide close customer support, helping them to solve real-time technical issues through a new technical service center at the ASE Group facility," said Tom Newsom, vice president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Our product strategy provides customers with the broadest range of application coverage from high-speed and mixed-signal to RF capabilities."
