7/17/2003 - Cypress Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: CY) — the industry leader in USB — announced general availability of WirelessUSBTM EX, a 2.4 GHz wireless radio transceiver (CY6941) and baseband controller (CY6942) designed for cordless PC and video game peripherals.
WirelessUSB EX lets manufacturers of keyboards, mice, video game controllers and other cordless human interface devices (HIDs) significantly decrease the development time, cost and power requirements of their products without sacrificing performance. End-users enjoy WirelessUSB’s robust performance—including the ability to operate up to seven wireless devices with a common receiver at a distance of up to 30 feet. The WirelessUSB EX wireless protocol is optimized for security and low latency-- average latency for four nodes is less than eight milliseconds. An ideal solution for upgrading corded USB devices to cordless operation, Cypress’s WirelessUSB technology can also be used in non-USB applications, such as video game peripherals and for generic serial data transfer.
Early adopters of Cypress’s WirelessUSB technology include NMB, the world’s leading OEM manufacturer of PC keyboards and mice, and Saitek, a leader in video game peripherals, such as game controllers, game pads and bridges. WirelessUSB was recently honored with EDN Magazine’s 2002 "Innovation of the Year" award and Electronique Magazine’s "Electron d’Or" award.
