7/15/2003 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), the market leader in video test, measurement and monitoring, announced a free online firmware update for the WFM700 series of multi-format waveform monitors.
Addressing the need to verify the quality of audio signals which accompany standard and high definition video as part of a digital television signal, Tektronix has released an advanced set of comparative audio measurement and alarm tools that builds on the success of its WFM700 multi-format, multi-standard waveform monitors. With its latest firmware upgrade, users are provided with a flexible Lissajous feature, which allows visualization phase and delay relationships between any two channels within the eight AES/EBU digital audio channels that the WFM700 measures. In addition, embedded group sample phase alarms and measurements are available should selected embedded audio groups become out of phase by at least one user specified sample point. The alarm also provides a numeric value in time of the phase difference between groups, thus logging the error event. Remote ground closures are also available as part of the alarm notification system. In addition the latest alarm features are compatible with the WFM700's remote ground closure capability.
"Digital audio is an important part of the broadcast industry's growing acceptance of digital and high definition television," said Todd Biddle, Vice President, Video Business, Tektronix. "With the flexible Lissajous and embedded group alarm firmware enhancements to the WFM700, content providers and broadcasters now have a powerful tool to enable the detection, isolation and diagnosis of digital audio and video problems in both standard definition and high definition signals."
The new firmware upgrade to the WFM700, version 2.2.4, is available free of charge to all WFM700 series owners from the Tektronix website at www.tektronix.com. This latest firmware version is currently shipping with all new WFM700 series multi-format multi-standard waveform monitors.
WFM700 Series Recognized at Largest Industry Forum
In April, at the National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas, the WFM700 series was awarded Broadcast Engineering magazine's "Pick Hit" award for its cutting edge technology and positive impact on users' everyday work. Broadcast Engineering's Pick Hits are the most distinguished and longest running awards given as a part of the NAB convention. For the past 18 years, the magazine's panel of working professionals in the broadcast, post, network, and satellite industries have selected the most innovative and exciting products from each NAB show.
The Tektronix WFM700 series multi-format, multi-standard waveform monitors offer the monitoring and measurement capabilities needed in the production, post-production, distribution, and transmission of high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) digital video and audio content. With specialized Diamond, Arrowhead and Lightning gamut monitoring displays, session and status screens, a user-configurable multi-mode display, and eye and jitter measurements configurable for full field or line select, the WFM700 series provides users with the powerful tools to enable quick error detection. For mixed HD/SD environments, the multi-format WFM700A provides the tools needed to perform such operational monitoring tasks as checking signal validity and content quality, setting levels, and verifying signal paths. The WFM700HD offers an HD-only version of these same capabilities. The WFM700M offers all the capabilities of the WFM700A plus the digital analysis capabilities important in the design, installation and maintenance of digital video systems, including eye, jitter, and data measurements for both HD and SD formats. With available digital audio monitoring support, the capabilities of any WFM700 can be expanded to monitor both digital video and up to eight channels of AES/EBU embedded or non-embedded audio in a single instrument.
