7/11/2003 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), the market leader of video test, measurement and monitoring solutions, and IneoQuest Technologies, Inc., the leading supplier of Video over IP analysis solutions, have signed an agreement to provide MPEG over IP technology solutions for cable operators and equipment manufacturers pursuing video-on-demand (VOD) applications.
Gigabit Ethernet LAN topologies that use IP as the transmission medium are now being used as an enabling technology for cable operators providing video-on-demand (VOD) programming to their subscribers. The potential for signal degradation exists any time video signals are manipulated, including the MPEG compression process used to optimize bandwidth use in digital transmission. With VOD, MPEG is combined with Ethernet networks, resulting in a demanding application with critical compression factors. This elevates the importance of signal analysis and monitoring for standards compliance and to assure quality of service.
"Through the Tektronix and IneoQuest partnership, cable operators and equipment manufacturers can harness the ability to aggressively address Video on Demand degradation, enabling them to successfully provide quality services to their subscribers," said Marc Todd, Chief Executive Officer, IneoQuest. "Additionally, operators and manufacturers can have confidence in this solution from the industry's leading test equipment manufacturer, Tektronix, and IneoQuest, the emerging leader of next-generation network traffic generation and performance analysis systems."
"Video on Demand is a value-added service that can give cable operators a competitive edge and help to reduce customer churn, but only when it provides a quality viewing experience. The right monitoring and analysis tools, which can detect and diagnose problems that affect the reliability and quality of VOD services, can make all the difference," said Todd Biddle, General Manager, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "Tektronix and Ineoquest are partnering to provide a complete set of MPEG over IP analysis and monitoring tools that will ensure our customers can comply to VOD standards and ensure the quality of video signals in a challenging environment."
This complete solution is comprised of IneoQuest's SingulusTM G1-T 10/100/1000 Network Traffic Generator and Performance Analysis System with built in Tap for Video over IP (recently announced at NAB 2003) and Tektronix' MPEG analysis and monitoring equipment, such as the AD953-II MPEG Analysis System and MTM400 Transport Stream Monitor. The Singulus G1-T can generate, analyze and record Video over IP streams as well as measure IP transport jitter and quality with hardware-assisted timestamps. Tektronix equipment is then used by cable operators monitoring their network's performance to verify the transport stream's integrity. Additionally, video equipment manufacturers will use these tools to validate and evaluate the performance of their product designs, such as set-top boxes and multiplexers.
Based in Mansfield, MA, IneoQuest Technologies is an emerging leader in designing and building the next generation of network traffic generation and performance analysis systems. The Singulus family of Network Traffic Stimulus and Analysis Systems is designed to create and measure network traffic conditions. The Singulus G1 for Gigabit Ethernet, Singulus G1-T for 10/100/1000 Ethernet with TAP mode, Singulus G10E for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Singulus POS OC-192c are all currently available.
