Latin America Looks Bright for Performance Technologies, Brightstar

7/8/2003 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX), a leader in unified systems design for the communications, military and commercial markets, announced it has selected Brightstar Corporation to be the company's exclusive Latin American distributor for its family of SEGwayTM SS7/IP signaling solutions. Brightstar currently services over 160 customers worldwide.

Performance Technologies' SEGway SS7 link replacement devices and IP-STPs can reliably concentrate and route SS7 wireless, wireline and satellite signaling traffic onto lower-cost, IP-based networks. As a result carriers are realizing lower operational costs, SMS offload and access to new markets that may not have traditional communications infrastructures in place.

"We believe that the Performance Technologies products fulfill an immediate and very real need in Latin America," said Mike Tate, vice president of Wireless Data for Brightstar Corporation. "Our customers need these types of cost-effective solutions, and we are excited about our prospects with Performance Technologies."

Brightstar's Wireless Data & Telecom Solutions Division offers the latest technologies and infrastructure aimed at minimizing costs, maximizing efficiencies and increasing profitability in telecommunications. The company has exceeded $1 billion in revenue in the past 12 months, six months earlier than originally projected by the company's president & CEO.

"Establishing a sales and marketing partnership with Brightstar provides 160 Latin American carriers immediate access to Performance Technologies' innovative, cost effective and next-generation network telecommunication solutions," said Martin McFadden, director of Latin America Sales for Performance Technologies.
