Vitesse Supports PCI Express in Next-generation Switching Products

6/27/2003 - Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: VTSS), announced the adoption of the Advanced Switching specification for the PCI Express interconnect architecture in its next-generation switching products, offering customers a proposed standards-based solution for packet based interconnect that reduces cost while delivering a rich feature set.

Vitesse's family of Advanced Switching Intelligent Switch Fabrics will enhance the PCI Express interconnect standard by providing an intelligent switch fabric and backplane interconnect to be used in communications applications such as Storage, Wireless, Media Gateways, Router/Switches, and Internet Appliances. Vitesse is a key developer in the consortium and is actively involved in the development of the Advanced Switching specification.

Advanced Switching utilizes the same physical and link layers of PCI Express, yet adds an optimized transaction layer that allows for flexible topologies, encapsulation for any protocol, multicast and broadcast features, as well as congestion management and protection. Combined with the PCI Express core specification, Advanced Switching allows for a comprehensive proposed standards-based technology that allows end customers the ability to build modular products that reuse technology, reduce design costs and shorten the time-to-market.
