6/27/2003 - Designs for next-generation automotive telematics systems are becoming increasingly complex, where devices must handle multiple applications simultaneously while delivering the utmost reliability and performance. To meet the challenge, real-time OS company QNX Software Systems and automotive telematics specialist ACUNIA, through its business unit ACUNIA Embedded Solutions, announced their collaboration in creating high-performance embedded solutions aimed at the automotive telematics and embedded markets using the Intel® 80200T processor and the XINGU® concept.
The QNX® Neutrino® RTOS now supports the Intel 80200T processor, an ultra-low-power, high-performance processor core based on Intel XScale® technology. Using Intel 80200T processors with QNX Neutrino, developers can harness greater processing power and run more applications through software, thereby shortening the development cycle of new features such as navigation, voice-command processing, automotive security, and location-based services. In addition, the combination of QNX Neutrino's power management capabilities with the dynamic voltage and frequency management of the Intel 80200T processor gives developers the ability to more easily match performance and power consumption to workload.
The fault-resilient architecture of the QNX Neutrino RTOS, which runs every device driver, communications stack, and application in the safety of memory-protected user space, provides the reliability that automakers demand. Extending its range of automotive-grade software components, QNX also announced that it will release a board support package for the ACUNIA XINGU two-chip processing solution. XINGU is based on the Intel 80200T processor and a programmable companion chip, and provides a reusable building block for telematics designs.
"We see customers across all our geographic markets looking for sophisticated embedded solutions that deliver high performance under limited environmental conditions such as the automobile," said Andrew Poliak, automotive segment manager for QNX. "The development work with ACUNIA and Intel on XINGU allows us to showcase our collective advanced capabilities for telematics and other embedded applications."
"We are pleased to see the synergy in the combination of QNX Neutrino RTOS and Intel 80200T processor for the ACUNIA XINGU telematics platform for embedded and telematics applications," said Michael Ludgate, director of marketing, Intel Storage Components Division.
"A closely integrated and proven technology platform on the hardware and OS level is a vital component for our customers in their development path towards tomorrow's telematics platforms," said Bart Plackle, general manager of ACUNIA Embedded Solutions. "Both QNX Neutrino and XINGU technologies are high performance, extremely stable and scalable, and capable of supporting multiprocessor designs, which can easily fulfill low to extremely high-end telematics requirements."
Support for the Intel 80200T processor core is available in QNX Neutrino v6.2.1. Board support for the ACUNIA Xingu processor solution will be commercially available in the fourth quarter of 2003.
