6/26/2003 - Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), the leading provider of silicon solutions enabling broadband communications, announced that Fujitsu PC Corporation has become the latest PC manufacturer to equip its notebook computers with Broadcom® 54gTM wireless LAN solutions. 54gTM is Broadcom’s implementation of the IEEE 802.11g standard, and has become the industry’s premier 54 Mbps wireless LAN technology. By embedding 54gTM mini-PCI cards into its LifeBook® notebook family, Fujitsu is providing customers with wireless capabilities that deliver optimal speed, range and security capabilities.
Fujitsu now offers 54gTM wireless LAN capabilities as low-cost upgrades to its LifeBook N Series notebooks, and numerous other models sold in the U.S., including the LifeBook E4000D, LifeBook P5000D, LifeBook S2000 and LifeBook S6000D notebooks. Fujitsu customers will find complementary 54gTM products that provide maximum 802.11g performance implementations in retail stores and through service providers.
“Broadcom’s 54gTM products have emerged as the premier solutions for 802.11g wireless LANs, driven by widespread adoption by the industry’s leading PC OEMs and wireless LAN equipment vendors,” said Jeff Abramowitz, Senior Director of Marketing for Broadcom’s Home and Wireless Networking Business Unit. “Fujitsu has demonstrated a leadership role in U.S. mobile computing markets that will help to propel the acceptance of 802.11g-enabled products. Fujitsu customers can now choose 54gTM with the confidence that their notebooks will achieve maximum performance with wireless equipment from some of the biggest names on retail shelves, including Linksys, Belkin and Melco/Buffalo.”
Broadcom was the first vendor to ship solutions based on the 802.11g draft specification, and has since attained significant market leadership with its 54gTM products. According to The NPD Group, 54gTM-based products represent 93 percent of all 802.11g equipment sold through US retail distribution channels. Additionally, all 802.11g-enabled notebooks that have been sold to date by major PC vendors include Broadcom’s 54gTM technology.
“With each new generation of notebooks, Fujitsu redefines the concept of ‘mobility’ by delivering cutting-edge technologies that meet the needs of today’s customers,” said Paul Moore, Director of Product Marketing, Fujitsu PC Corporation. “High-speed wireless communications represent the next wave of features that enable consumers and businesses to enjoy the ultimate freedom of mobile computing. Broadcom’s superior 54gTM solutions are an ideal addition to our LifeBook notebook family, offering the performance and security that our customers require.”
Fujitsu notebooks enabled with 54gTM technology can be purchased through the company’s retail and reseller channels, as well as at www.fujitsupc.com or 1-877-FPC-DIRECT. Users can choose the recommended configuration or customize their notebook utilizing the Fujitsu Configure To Order (CTO) Program.

Broadcom’s AirForceTM Wireless LAN Product Family
Broadcom’s high performance WLAN product line, AirForce, features the greatest breadth and depth in the industry. In addition to transceivers that provide IEEE 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11a and dual-band 802.11a/g solutions, Broadcom integrates wireless network processors, communications technologies and OneDriverTM software solutions into reference designs that speed customer time to market. Broadcom partners are developing 54gTM client solutions, access points, routers, cable modems, DSL modems, BluetoothTM solutions and GPRS cellular products.
All the wireless chipsets in the AirForce product line enjoy unique performance advantages that improve throughput and range via Broadcom’s SmartRadioTM technology. In addition to advanced signal processing techniques, the all-CMOS solutions are capable of self-calibrating based on usage temperature and other environmental conditions, reconfiguring constantly for optimum performance. Competing radios are statically calibrated at the point of manufacture and are unable to adapt to changing environmental influences.
