6/25/2003 - Malaysia's Telekom Malaysia Berhad is the first telecom operator to deploy Ezeephone, a prepaid fixed line calling system from Telekom Applied Business Sdn Bhd and based on NMS Communications' technology. Ezeephone allows telcos to control billing, collection and fraud costs and gives end users convenience, cost control, and security for their fixed line phone calls. In just eight months, over 8,000 subscribers have already signed up for Telekom Malaysia's Ezeephone service.
Telekom Applied Business Sdn Bhd chose system building blocks from NMS Communications (Nasdaq:NMSS), trusted supplier of communications products and services, for their scalability and reliability. The Ezeephone system is built on NMS' Alliance Generation® (AG) 4000 and TXTM Series system building blocks. The AG 4000 provides a cost-effective platform that offers unmatched capability for mixed media types to service a wide range of voice and signaling applications. NMS' TX Series provides powerful and flexible hardware for a variety of Signaling System 7 (SS7) applications. SS7 is often used as the signaling protocol for voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) gateway applications, wireless infrastructure, and for a wide variety of enhanced services.
"Consumers value convenience but they also need to have control over what they use. As the leading telecommunication service provider in Malaysia, Telekom Malaysia is proactive in fulfilling these needs. At the same time, Ezeephone System benefits Telekom Malaysia by eliminating costs relating to billings, collections, bad debts and those resulting from the fraudulent use of the phones. This is a solution which benefits both the user and the service provider," said YBhg Dato Abdul Malek Mohamed, head of the Consumer and Business Division Telekom Malaysia Berhad.
"The Ezeephone system gives telecom operators a way to deal with longstanding issues such as costly billing, fraudulent phone use, and bad-debt collections," said Anuar Alias, CEO of Telekom Applied Business. "Subscribers, meanwhile, will appreciate the convenience and control gained through prepaid services such as this first-ever fixed line service. The anticipated demand for this system requires it be scalable and reliable – and that's what we gained by using NMS' building blocks."
The special Ezeephone telephone set complementing the Ezeephone back-end system was developed in partnership with its manufacturer, ALIF Manufacturing Sdn Bhd.
