IP Infusion Supports Virtual Private LAN Services in Latest ZebOS

6/25/2003 - IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, announced the availability of ZebOS® Advanced Routing Suite (ARS) version 5.4. ZebOS ARS now supports two key components of core, edge, and enterprise routing equipment: Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) and enhancement to the Linux implementation of 802.1d MAC bridging.

"With ZebOS ARS 5.4 we are pleased to deliver both VPLS and Layer 2 support, demonstrating our commitment to provide a full range of Layer 2 and Layer 3 source code products to our customers." said Nick Keating, President and CEO of IP Infusion. "Looking forward, we will continue to expand our Layer 2 offering. Additionally, our new VPLS product broadens our current MPLS solutions by enabling customers to provide transparent LAN services across MPLS-VPN tunnels. We see VPLS as the latest evolution of MPLS technology and a catalyst to broaden the acceptance of MPLS-VPN."

About ZebOS Advanced Routing Suite Version 5.4 Features

Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) Module
ZebOS VPLS implements the IETF VPLS draft submitted by Marc Lasserre and Vach Kompella. VPLS allows multiple customer sites connected across a MPLS network to share a single bridged domain. So, all customer sites appear to be on the same Local Area Network (LAN) regardless of their geographical location. Unlike Layer 2 VPN (draft Martini), VPLS supports multipoint-to-multipoint VPNs, allowing service providers to quickly connect three or more VPN sites together.

ZebOS VPLS is a modular source code solution that allows OEM customers to quickly add VPLS functionality to their communications devices. IP Infusion's VPLS software has been thoroughly tested for scalability and reliability and has successfully completed interoperability testing at the Networld+Interop 2003 iLabs initiative. ZebOS VPLS relies on the ZebOS Network Services Module (NSM) for route conversion and redistribution and the ZebOS LDP Module for LDP switching. It is written in ANSI C and has been ported to a variety of operating systems.

Linux Kernel Bridging Enhancement
ZebOS Layer 2 Protocol Offering is Linux-based and includes support for 802.1d Spanning Tree. To allow successful conformance to the 802.1d MAC bridging specification and increase functionality, extensive enhancements and improvements have been made to the Linux kernel code.
