Simply Networking Targets Dot Hill’s SANnet II Storage for Novell

6/25/2003 - Dot Hill (AMEX: HIL) announced that it is partnering with Simply Networking Solutions, Ltd. (SNS), a value-added reseller in the United Kingdom. SNS, a Novell specialist, will resell Dot Hill’s SANnet® II storage solutions in Novell environments.

SNS customer Havering College was experiencing significant data growth and needed to improve service to its users. With Havering’s heterogeneous environment supporting Novell, Unix and Windows, SNS recommended and installed SANnet II FC (Fibre Channel) in a switchless storage area network (SAN) configuration. The switchless SAN improved user access by taking traffic off the local area network (LAN) and consolidating storage resources. Because a switchless SAN was implemented, rather than a traditional SAN, Havering College was able to cut costs and complexity. The SANnet solution also provides seamless scalability for expected future growth and seamless migration to a full fabric SAN by simply adding switches.

“We have been particularly impressed with the split-second failover speed of our SANnet II solution,” said Gareth Loyns, network manager for Havering College. “This ensures that no disruption would be felt by our users should a problem of some type occur.” Havering College currently has over 12,000 students and operates from 3 campuses and 5 outreach centers.

All SANnet II products feature hot-swappable, field-replaceable components including drives, controllers, power supplies, fans and event monitoring units. This product line meets MIL-STD-810F standards for Military industry and is certified to the telecommunications industry NEBS Level 3 standard.
