6/25/2003 - iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), and iTicket unveiled an innovative Web services solution that enables film distributors to track sales data from individual movie theaters, even across diverse IT systems. iTicket of Norway built the iTicket Transfer application using the Microsoft® .NET Framework and the .NET data provider for SQL Anywhere® Studio from iAnywhere Solutions to simplify the deployment of enterprise applications to multiple customers.
"SQL Anywhere Studio’s out-of-the-box performance, scalability, reliability and ease-of-use are essential in this environment, since movie theaters do not have on-site IT staff to optimize and implement new software” said Kjetil Valøy, development manager of iTicket. "By leveraging the .NET data provider from iAnywhere Solutions and the Microsoft .NET Framework, we can now easily communicate with our distributors without having to tailor our application to each of their internal systems.”
"iTicket Transfer is a ground-breaking application, delivering on the promise of open standards support through XML and the .NET Framework,” said Michael Paola, group product manager at iAnywhere Solutions. "Our inclusion of the .NET data provider in the new SQL Anywhere Studio 9 reflects the promise that we see in Web services technology and the Microsoft .NET Framework for sharing enterprise information between multiple computing environments.”
iTicket Transfer Tracks Film Sales at Norway’s Movie Theaters
The iTicket Transfer application, built using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET, is installed at individual movie theaters and relies on the iAnywhere SolutionsTM .NET data provider to access film sales statistics stored in a local SQL Anywhere Studio database. The application then initiates a Web services interface to transfer the XML-encoded statistics to iTicket’s central SQL Anywhere Studio database. Next, the XML formatted data is transferred from iTicket’s central database through a Web services interface to the film distributor’s database. Because the application leverages Web services technology, the companies can quickly and easily share business critical information among diverse IT infrastructures.
About the .NET Data Provider for SQL Anywhere Studio
The native .NET data provider is now part of SQL Anywhere Studio 9, which was announced today by iAnywhere Solutions in a separate press release. This technology facilitates integration of SQL Anywhere Studio data with enterprise applications built using the Microsoft .NET Framework and .NET Compact Framework, including Web services. It features support for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003, which helps to increase developer productivity by speeding and simplifying application development. The technology is a full implementation, supporting all classes including DataReader and DataAdapter. It is also a direct implementation, not requiring OLE DB or ODBC bridges – providing application flexibility and superior performance.
