6/25/2003 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:CY) announced that WirelessUSBTM Cypress’s 2.4-GHz wireless interconnect solution- was awarded the "Electron d'Or 2003" award in the Network and Telecom chipset category by Electronique, the leading electronics monthly magazine in France.
In a June 17th ceremony, Cypress’s WirelessUSB was recognized as being the most innovative product of the year in its category. Other contenders short-listed for this category were Analog Devices, Atheros Communications, Epcos, Ikanos Communications, Maxim and Motorola.
"We are delighted to be the recipient of the prestigious ‘Electron d'Or’ award," said Eric Penain, Cypress Semiconductor regional country/sales manager in France. "Such recognition from a panel of noted experts from the French Electronics industry demonstrates to us that our products are well-accepted by the market and reaffirms our R&D strategy. It also validates our commitment to provide reliable, high-performance products that address evolving market needs."
Organized by Electronique, the French electronic industry’s leading publication, the "Electron d'Or Award 2003" recognizes the efforts made by Cypress to propose very innovative technologies and products. The awards program is now in its seventh year and recognizes products in 10 award categories.
Since its French launch of WirelessUSB in November 2002, Cypress has continued to educate the market and local customers about how the technology can be used in various applications and has been soliciting ideas and suggestions for future product enhancements. Potential applications for WirelessUSB include Human Interface Devices (HIDs) such as PC mice, keyboards and game controllers, point-of-sales terminals, industrial motor controllers, PDAs and mobile applications.
WirelessUSB can connect as many as seven devices up to 10 meters (30 feet) apart, making it the low-cost, wireless, RF solution of choice for PC mice and keyboards. In addition, WirelessUSB is an ideal solution for the gaming industry. With an average latency of less than eight milliseconds with four concurrent devices connected, WirelessUSB stands up to even the most rigorous gaming environments. Cypress’s WirelessUSB products require few external components, reducing design time and complexity and speeding time to market. WirelessUSB does not require new drivers for operating systems that support USB.
Among its many advantages, WirelessUSB provides the right balance between cost and performance by minimizing development time, bill-of-materials and power requirements of comparative wireless technologies, while improving overall performance.
