Advantech Applies Conformal Coating to Board Products

6/20/2003 - Advantech now offers customers the option of applied Conformal Coating to board level products.

Conformal Coating is applied to an assembled printed circuit board. This coating can be applied to selective areas of a board, depending on which areas need the protection. Previously used mainly for military and aerospace applications, conformal coating is now gaining a wider acceptance for embedded computing products operating in harsh environments.

The main advantages of Conformal Coating are numerous:

  • Protects board and components from moisture (humidity), dirt, dust and corrosion
  • Helps better protect against salt and spray
  • Helps prevent damage to boards from handling, installation and use
  • Helps protect from thermal shock
  • Extends the operating life (MTBF) of SBCs when operating in harsh environments.
