Magma Welcomes Silicon Metrics to MagmaTies Partner Program

6/20/2003 - Silicon Metrics® and Magma® Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA) announced that Silicon Metrics has joined the MagmaTies partnership program. Silicon Metrics' SiliconSmartTM characterization and modeling technology has now been validated to produce the necessary crosstalk data for Magma's comprehensive noise solution. The integration effort entailed extensive collaboration between the two companies to define the model format extensions, determine the unique measurements required and certify the models.

With 130 nanometer and finer process geometries, new electrical effects are causing system-on-chip (SoC) designs to fail. It is now critical to perform signal integrity (SI) analysis in addition to timing and power analysis at the beginning and throughout the flow. Conventional SI analysis solutions are employed too late in the flow and generate too many false-positives. This ineffective approach significantly lengthens the design cycle and reduces quality of results (QOR).

"We view Silicon Metrics as a technology leader in characterization and modeling," said Nitin Deo, vice president of business development at Magma. "By creating an interface between the SiliconSmart technology and Magma's integrated implementation and analysis system, our customers get the accurate model data required to achieve their QOR goals, thus ensuring their design success."

Focused on high-performance, high-complexity nanometer designs, Magma's Blast Fusion APXTM provides an integrated approach to logic and physical design. This integrated approach optimizes on-chip variations throughout the place-and-route flow and, using multiple threshold voltage libraries, helps to reduce leakage power. To address potential SI issues, Blast Noise® works throughout the flow to analyze and adjust the design to avoid crosstalk noise and delay issues. The key component for the success of the analysis in these design flows is the availability of accurate timing, power and SI models.

Based on the commonly used Liberty library format, Silicon Metrics and Magma have worked together to define the underlying model format extensions, identify the unique measurements, and certify the characterization data for Blast Fusion APX to reach design closure for timing, power, and SI.

"Magma is recognized for the success of its fully integrated RTL-to-GDSII design system," said Vess Johnson, president and CEO of Silicon Metrics. "We applaud their dedication to EDA tool interoperability in choosing to work within the Liberty modeling standard, and we're very pleased to have had the opportunity to work with them in defining the critical constructs."

Silicon Metrics now has worked successfully with each of the major EDA vendors in the definition and extension of the Liberty model format.

About Magma Design Automation
Magma software is used to design fast, multimillion-gate integrated circuits, providing "The Fastest Path from RTL to Silicon"TM, enabling chip designers to reduce the time required to produce complex ICs. Magma's products for prototyping, synthesis, and place & route provide a single executable for RTL-to-GDSII chip design. The company's Blast CreateTM, Blast Fusion®, Blast Fusion APXTM, Blast Noise® Blast PlanTM and Blast RailTM products utilize Magma's patented FixedTiming® methodology and single data model architecture to reduce the timing-closure iterations often required between the logic and physical processes in conventional IC design flows.

Magma maintains headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., as well as facilities in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, Calif.; Boston, Mass.; Durham, N.C.; Austin and Dallas, Texas; Newcastle, Wash.; and in Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. The company's stock trades on Nasdaq under the ticker symbol LAVA. Visit Magma Design Automation on the Web at
