6/19/2003 - Sun Microsystems announced it will make available low-cost, pre-configured and optimized system configurations for rapid deployment of mySAP(TM) All-in-One solutions on the entry-level Solaris OS based Sun Fire V240 server and best-selling Sun Fire V480 and V880 servers (1). The turn-key solutions --delivered by SAP channel partners and Sun iForce(SM) channel partners-- are designed for easy implementation and faster time to utilization.
The announcement is an extension of Sun's commitment to offer affordable, customer-ready solutions that accelerate ROI for small and midsize businesses.
"Faster IT deployment can lead to business advantages, therefore customers need a solution that's easy to install, low risk and highly reliable," said Stuart Wells, senior vice president, Sun Microsystems Market Development Organization. "With today's announcement, Sun will further help customers do what they need to do -- focus on core competencies, gain a competitive advantage and prosper."
In comparison to traditional approaches --in which different vendor parts, solutions and hardware can arrive separately, and are then configured on site-- pre-tested system configurations from Sun and pre-packaged software from SAP integration partners will help ease and optimize implementation and reduce installation and deployment time for the customer.
"Sun and SAP share a common vision based on industry wide, open standards, to help customers avoid the risk of non-scalability associated with certain proprietary platforms, lower their acquisition costs, and simplify integration of business-critical information," said Jesper Lindhardt, vice president, mySAP All-in-One, SAP Global Field SMB, SAP AG.
"As one of the largest resellers of SAP solutions worldwide, we see immediate opportunity from midsize firms looking to deploy mySAP All-in-One solutions," said Steve Niesman, CEO, itelligence US. "However, these firms require industry-specific solutions and predictable implementation costs. Sun has taken another helpful step in allowing us to deliver against this midmarket customer requirement."
"Midsize companies have the same IT goals as Fortune 500 companies, but with smaller budgets," said Scott Zahl, vice president, Sun business group, GE Access. "mySAP All-in-One solutions, pre-tested and configured on Sun servers, will help deliver a new level of price/performance functionality for midsize customers."
mySAP All-in-One solutions on Sun servers, storage, and software -and enriched by service components-- include fully documented vertical solutions based on best practices and combined industry knowledge from Sun, SAP and integration partners, including itelligence and Plaut. The solutions offer functionality and application features that are customized for specific customer needs, including manufacturing, CPG, automotive, microelectronics and retail customers.
