TI Integrates WIDCOMM's Software into Bluetooth Device Reference Designs

6/19/2003 - WIDCOMM Inc. announced that Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) has integrated WIDCOMM's BTE Mobile software into its new Bluetooth enabled mobile device reference designs. The addition of WIDCOMM's software to its offering enables TI to provide complete, pre-qualified Bluetooth-enabled GSM/GPRS handset solutions, which significantly speeds product time-to-market for manufacturers.

"By adding WIDCOMM's Bluetooth software to our reference designs, we've eliminated most of the hardships associated with integrating Bluetooth technology. Now, all a manufacturer needs to do is define and finalize its user interface and form factor," said Ari Rauch, General Manager, TI Short Distance Wireless.

The Bluetooth-enabled GSM/GPRS reference designs include TI's BRF6100 single-chip Bluetooth, which has been optimized for each reference design to deliver peak performance by sharing clocks, power, memory and other resources, and WIDCOMM's BTE-Mobile software. WIDCOMM's BTE-Mobile is the most thorough Bluetooth mobile phone platform ever available to OEMs, ODMs, design houses and module makers. It consists of four critical subsystems. These subsystems include: feature rich Bluetooth stack and profiles (over 20); a Bluetooth application (Mobile Xpress) that abstracts the Bluetooth complexity, facilitates MMI integration, and reduces the need for Bluetooth expertise; a framework that facilitates integration of platform-dependent interfaces for audio, data services and non-volatile memory; and a development tool (BTE Insight) for rapid Bluetooth software prototyping that can save weeks in a typical development schedule.

"Together, TI and WIDCOMM offer manufacturers the best of all worlds - the best Bluetooth and GSM/GPRS hardware and the best Bluetooth protocol stack integrated into the mobile phone," said Hiep Pham, CEO and co-founder of WIDCOMM. "Our relationship with TI continues WIDCOMM's mission to bring complete, interoperable, and seamless wireless connectivity solutions to market quickly and easily. Bluetooth mobile phone solutions complement our other embedded Bluetooth applications including headsets, audio sets, and PDAs."

TI's new Bluetooth-enabled reference designs incorporating WIDCOMM's BTE Mobile include the TCS2100 and TCS2200 for feature-rich multimedia handsets. Its relationship with TI continues WIDCOMM's mission to work with leading companies to provide state-of-the art, interoperable, and easy-to-use Bluetooth enabled products.
